Hi all!
I’m opening this thread as I’m not able to find any info about (it’ll probably exist..)

This year in October in everything goes right we will be driving across Morocco!, and after some issues with the Landy (hopefully sorted already, fingers crossed) I’m trying to achieve some more off road performance without compromising on road driving as I use her for commuting so first thing on my list is MT tyres 245/75/16 and next (it was an advisory in my last MOT) I was thinking a 2” lift but I didn’t realised that not only coils and shocks must be fitted but brake and ABS line, castor corrected, front radius arm bushes etc, etc should get sorted as well and I don’t have time nor willing to spend much money.

I have been searching and according to what I have read the best way to achieve a couple of cm more is by installing genuine Land Rover HD coils (I’ll change the shocks over a terrafirma as well just in case I’m going for the 2” in the future as according to their website can be used with standard suspension height)

I have no winch or massive roof rack fitted, we’ll be two people driving, personal belongings and an extra spare tyre, petrol can, tools, standard stuff to a Moroccan trip. My big concern is; will the HD springs affect to much the ride? Since it’s very comfortable now, is there any other springs brand or model I can achieve that small lift I’m looking for?

Thank you very much in advance:):):)

Does it have SLS or ACE?

HD springs will be horrid if you aren’t carrying enough weight to compress them.

I have 245/75/16 Kumho MT51’s and they fit but only just, don’t think you’d get away with any more than that without cutting.

The tyres will give you a lift by themselves, I’m not familiar with the terrain you’ll be crossing but I’ve not had any issues yet doing the usual Yorkshire and Wales lanes. I do use the off road height on the rear suspension occasionally but there’s every chance it’s just me being over cautious of catching the rear on something.

It might be that they tyres give you enough by themselves, you won’t be compromising the rest of the car so much that way. Worth adding I fitted new oem spec suspension and that did raise it a fair bit over the old tired suspension.

D2 front springs dont seem to be as well supported (no pun intended) as d1/90/110 setups. I think the answer most will give is to use genuine springs as per 2004 year models. Few lengths to choose from. Old man emu do front springs of varying rates i think, but you are looking at 40mm lift which is maybe more than you require.
Perhaps the best option is to call someone like Gwyn Lewis and see what they could do with oem springs and a small lift block at front and rear? Maybe to give a 15 to 20mm lift for peace of mind with tyre clearance.
Or keep it as is and fit 245/70/16 tyres.

I removed my 2" lift about half year ago and installed first Monroe shocks and OEM springs (for pre facelift ones). My rde height become very low (under standard and one side was below the other). After I have decided to change them to Billsteins and new OEM springs but now for after facelift (color grey purple) ones.
The result is about 30mm lift and better handling....

Thanks everyone for your help, this community is amazing:)
My Disco is a 7 seater already in springs by previous owners and they probably never have been changed.

Then I will avoid HD as in theory the car will be fully loaded twice a year or so.
The reason to change into 2" was because my current suspension is very worn but I don't want to get a massive job involved in.
By the way , very nice picture:cool:. With the 245 75 16's fitted have you notice any lack of power?

That's what I need, sounds perfect something between 10-30mm and no modifications at all.
Anyway as far I can see all the coils for 7 seater are marked as HD does it make any sense? or medium are ok for 7 seaters as well, it's only noticeable in standard coils.

What kind of thing do you come across in Morocco? 245/75’s will give you around 20mm from memory.

You may want to consider parts availability wherever you are going. Is it easier to get oem spec rather than an aftermarket part should something go wrong?

I wonder if the Bearmach blue 30mm lift front springs are any good for you? Ive not had experience of them. £85 a pair.
Sounds perfect for me, 30mm would be enough as long as I don't need any modifications. Thanks for the idea mate!

I friend of mine who has a lot of experience in driving through Morocco is preparing the adventure. Nothing very brutal, miles and miles of dirt tracks, a couple of days in dessert and one day covering one of the old Paris Dakar stages. I'll take several spare parts with me just in case even I'm thinking about purchasing one coil/shock more for spares as well

If you have already decided on 245/75/16 (good size BTW) then that will give a 30.5" wheel compared to the standard 29" and about 3/4" additional ground clearance. Adding a 2" lift does not further improve ground clearance as the diffs are still the same height above the ground. The only benefit of a 2" lift IMHO is the ability to fit slightly larger tyres, say 265/75/16. No point lifting if you keep the same tyre size.

Bear in mind that 7 seaters are technically only compliant with their certificate of conformity with air suspension. I'm not being judgmental, I run coils and have a seat on one side and a case on the other; my point is that manufacturers may not be keen to label their springs as being suitable for 7 seaters due to product liability issues.

I didn't know that, every day is a school day!
I look forward to pay day LOL, I'll order the coils next week, in the meantime I'll be looking for the best coil brand between those 10-30mm
Cheers!

I think your options are limited on standard height, but Rimmer Bros do genuine springs in the 2003 to 04 height ranges at about £85 each. My personal opinion is that to drive across Morocco and wanting to achieve a modest lift, go the biggest genuine pairing under 400mm. They are handed dont forget with drivers side higher. Google the heights; there was a LR publication with them listed. They did a 394 and 382 pairing which is yellow/orange and green/orange. Or with a winch a pair of pink/brown 405mm each side. Give your dealer a call for prices or Rimmers maybe. Those HD springs may be a bit stiff and unnecessary if you have ACE
