So, after having a tapping from the engine manifest itself when at running temp for the last couple of months, I had it looked at yesterday.
Rocker cover off the right hand bank to check valve gear first & all looks well there.
Borescope down the spark plug holes show a clean lip at the top of the cylinder on no.3 (right where I pinpointed the source of the tap from).
This is the same cylinder that had a 0.5mm lip when the heads were done a couple of years ago. Liner didnt look like it was moving at the time as the lip was carbon'ed up.
Seems its started moving again
So, time to ponder what to do next. Sell it as spares / repair & move onto something else?

The P38 is a keeper. So a Top Hat block is the way forward.
Now, considering my mechanic states that my valve gear is in exceptional condition & seeing it myself yesterday I was surprised but it does get oil changes every 5-6k. So Im thinking along the lines of a short engine or just block & pistons.
So, really just after some recommendations on where to source one from. Have researched the likes of Turners, ACR, V8 Developments (not considering RPI). All seem to be around the £2k mark. Any others Ive not considered?
Also tempted by a cam upgrade Turners are doing a short engine with Kent cam for £2195.
PS. This will be the 3rd engine in 154k miles .diesel boys will have a field day with this :behindsofa:
