Love it, side steps looks too far out, so send the wheels out to make it look better! :D:D:thumbup:

Lets summarise, We all take the **** but here is how I see it,
You took one old series,
You have fitted a old spunky not very powerful V8 in it, (poorly) which now leads to a modified rear axle due to poor choices/installation ****ing in a gale force 10. Get a defender box in there re do the mounts properly and you will have a nice motor. As it happens your rock sliders look hideous but if you like them then that's your choice. Fitting a different engine box combo should be done right and sorry doc it doesn't look good.

God help if you turn up to a job interview and say hey look what I built they would laugh you out the interview.

Keep these ideas like the axle make it for fun With plenty of time on your hands hell make a front one to for an Offroad toy if it works out it will be fantastic but honestly surely you can see your just pushing a bad situation and having to make bad choices and which put you in a worse situation?? There is no way this will be ready by Xmas unless you take a few steps back and sort it properly?

This is not **** taking but honestly do yourself a favour you will win and have it running far sooner. The only person losing out of having fun is you.

Whilst I appreciate the fact that it would be easier with a defender box in there an LT85 and 95 are just as long as the 380. The only way past this would be a 101 bell housing on the 95 which let's face it is rarer than rocking horse **** or using the weaker LT77

The system is welded in now and it will stay put unless I do find a 101 bell housing for my spare 95 box and either way I want this rear axle on it as I'm also buying bolt on portal hubs for the front so may as well make both axles stupid.

The sliders should be fine once welded up but worst case is I take a few inches off the steps and re weld

I enjoy the modification process and getting to make things so it is fun and the front end is now about complete. All I'm missing is the slam panel which I need plasma cutting

Now onto your condescension and opinion, no offence but if I have a **** about what other people thought....well that'd just be plain stupid. I don't like the look of your trailer one bit yet I don't keep spouting on about how I hate the way it looks or that it's one more dead series like mine now is.
If you don't like the project down read the thread simple as that really, this is my build not yours and I will complete it in the fashion I see fit.

Now I'm on my iPhone so hopefully autocorrect won't have messed with that post too much

Woop no offence taken! We're all in this for banter. And if you hate the trailer no probs please say so I'm more than open to others opinions an considerations. To not be so would be foolish IMO.

A university lecturer once said to me: I'm the highest paid lecturer and am considered god in this place, what do I Know?? Bugger all all I know is what I've read from other people's finding and process them.

If your enjoying your build then fair do's. seemed to me you want it done but give yourself more grief. That I don't understand but if your enjoying it fair do's

My only worry is that the more you go non standard ( ie tried and tested) the more expense and laid up time. I know you were didled on the gearbox but i would still go back to that as the root of most of your issues.

I like the fact you have sourced jaguar bits as there is certainly some crossover of parts development there. Given that you have pretty much done it alone you have to be commended for not just stripping it and selling off.

Given time, effort and a decent workspace i would have considered a jag v8 and at least marry the running gear throughout. Parts would be off the shelf.

My personal gripe with yours is simply the front end looking a bit bland. I'd think with lights even fake ones I.e. Just the lenses it'd made it look a lot nicer instead of the blacked out plates unless I've been looking at old or the wrong pictures in which case I take

I like the modification side and making things work. Now that the box is moved forward I'm putting in the old crossmember again so the chassis is in modified apart from rock slider brackets

I do want it done but the rest is coming together nicely now, front end should be sorted this week if I can get my slam panel plasma cut today

The series itself is complete in the sense that it'll now all bolt together even the front prop. It's just the rear where there's an issue hence the axle.

My idea here is an atomic style axle using their design just modified for an offset diff

I can get hold of a jaguar engine and box for £200 but without an engine crane at my place it's not worth the effort now plus I want to make the axle as it'll give me disc brakes and a disc handbrake.
The effort and time isn't an issue as I've come far enough to keep powering on! If everyone have up when the going gets tough we wouldn't have so many creations it's just a case of make it work and I'm happy to put in the effort to try. Worst case is I simply stick in a 1.5" spacer under the rear axles as a bodge to get it on the road until the axle is perfected.
Won't be a strength issue though, fully tig or stick welded depending on my mood and be a 6mm minimum with braces

I feel the same about the lights but I must remember it must function first and foremost for its intended purpose head lights will serve zero purpose and only detract from its performance. That said if it ever gets road legal they will be a ness asset evil.

An axle build is great for an offroad toy comp motor I have a sals here in weighing in but thinking it could be an axle build. Myself would
Not consider doing it unless it was a bullet proof monster like 35 or 40 spline but each to their own.

I don't see any reason to pressure yourself into making it for road use tho personally.

as far as i can see, doc's just having fun pushing/testing his knowledge and experience while he's rebuilding. nothing wrong with that!

if he changes his mind later, well then that's why grinders were invented :)

I think the difference is.. a (sorry) young'un wanting to try all he has learnt and someone who's done it before and thinks of it as a job to get out of the way.

Doc, I'm impressed with your current level of motivation.. keep it up!

Have to agree with trax on several fronts having met doc ;)

1. Whilst he's doing his course etc its a good way to test his skills and make mistakes and rectify them and learn from them.

2. Whilst he is concentrating on that he isn't taking anything else apart and leaving it unfinished!

I suspect doc would have a dozen unfinished projects given the chance lol.

This is the thing though I could easily swap the half shaft end of the UJ over to a 30 spline Dana set up if needed but as it's just a case of evolution in using the landrover bits for now and going 10 spline

It'll be staying a road use vehicle and if I do manage to source a 101 bell housing for my LT95 then I will upgrade but either way the axle will be a serious bonus giving both disc brakes and disc handbrake!

I'd have more than a dozen if I had my way :p

The landrover is slowly nearing completion anyway :)
