Series 3 starting

Hi there
I have just bought a series 3 with a 2.25 petrol engine.
I have both a choke pull and a cold start lever.
The engine turns over but there is no firing.
I am a bit concerned that i could over strain or flood the engine if I don't follow a start procedure.
Is there one?
If so what is the correct way to start the engine from being stood for a few years.
Everything lights up and the engine turns.

Have you changed the fuel?

I have just put fresh unleaded in and changed the spark plugs

Check there's a spark, then chase carb problems. Go through the standard "it won't start" diagnostic procedure - plenty of threads on here about that.

If you've just bought it...it hasn't got a fuel cut off switch has it??
