Hi All

Ive stripped my series 3 down and due to lack of a crane of any kind i cant easily remove the engine to swap it for my 2.25 diesel could i just strip the petrol down to the block and rebuild it as the diesel with all the diesel parts? as far as i know they are both 3 bearing cranks. Is this possible?

Peter

very ,ive lifted alot when younger and daft onto boring machine etc but wouldnt want to try out of engine bay cant you get a scaffold frame or something to lift it out, crane will run well on plywood etc

Yes you can. My series 3 is running with a 3 bearing engine block from a series 2 petrol, they will run with the petrol crank ok if you dont load it stupidly. Fit a new timing chain and set up EP mark on flywheel with a dail gauge on number 1 exhaust fully open.

I lifted the 2.25 petrol into the back of a friends van with him. It wasn't exactly light, but, nor did we strip it down much. (hand lent me engine hoist to someone else)

Why don't you ask around on here if anyone local has an engine hoist? If you weren't a million miles away i'd lend you mine.

Put a wooden board down, that resolves the gravel issue.
