Disconnect the fan belt and run it. See if the noise stopsGood evening,i hope all are well,
After doing all the body and running gear work and upgrades on my 2.25 1969 88 petrol i have moved onto the engine,
It has a nasty clacking noise from the top front, this has been present for several years apparently, various causes have been suggested, pushrods, broken spring, loose tappet etc, today i removed the rocker cover rather hoping for one of those, unfortunately it all seems good,1 or 2 tappets slightly loose and the same tight,i adjusted correctly and the same noise,i have listened with a screwdriver to all areas of the running engine except very near to the fan,the engine.sounds nice,in fact the whirring and rumbling is on the good side,i have had honda bikes (750-4)that have made more, the clacking seems to be resonating from the inner wings as it seems to come from the opposite side of wherever i stand, near the heater gubbins above the fan is loudest but also noticable at the rocker breather,
any suggestions or advice would be very welcome,
All the best,
Ryn
Petrol engine @steve2286wHave you tried slacking off each injector nut in turn with engine running , may point to noisy injector
A frequency analyser might. Help or count the taps in 15 secs At tickover and then perhaps work out If it’s cam or crank related
