I'd like to stick in a second fusebox in teh dash of my defender but I'm not sure where to bring the power in from.

I have a single power in with 10 outputs secondary fusebox, rated to 100A, from Bolt-On-Bits. Is it just a case of bringing another power line from the battery compartment to the fusebox or could I take a feed from the current fusebox and run a 100A rated cable up into the dash from there?

All help gratefully recieved

Depends on what you wish to power off it?
Most gadgets and stuff take an amp or less, but a compressor could be 20A or more.
I recently rewired and replaced my old fuse holders with extra new ones.
I needed up to 30A max for the additional positions so ran a cable from the starter motor solenoid as this was the shorter route.
I have also added various other stuff in to a different location so have wires direct from the battery terminals.
Everything is fused, just in case!

I would run a decent sized cable from the battery to the new fuse box, then fit a 70 amp relay inline that triggered by the ignition, so the whole lot is dead when key off.
If you run all your wiring remote from the cars its then two separate systems so any faults easy to find.

+1 My Old fused positions used original wires just mounted onto new fuse holder, but new positions had new cable so its easy to fault find.
Many people load up existing supplies that the wiring simply wasnt designed for.
Have seen some pretty nasty bodges and melted cabling in the past.
Relay good for additional load and controlled from ignition can also include a direct supply that could power socket etc with ignition off

I've run a nice meaty red cable direct from the battery positive terminal to an auxiliary fuse box behind the driver's seat. It is not ignition switched but goes through an inline fuse before it leaves the battery box so as to minimise problems if it should chafe through. Not that I'm expecting it to though; there are plenty of grommets where it goes through metalwork. It's been good so far, and there is loads of room in the fusebox if I want to expand.

Just putting it out there ..... I have two ? Is it because it's an ambulance ? And if it is it might be worth going down that route .... I have one in the middle one and one passenger side , please do send back a virtual slap if it's no help or confusing :D

Thanks for all the replies. I think ill run it from the solenoid. To the dash. What amoerage would be coming from the solenoid connection, the full 640 cold crank amps? My fuse box is only rated to 100 amps.
