Running temperature

Hi
Just got my 1995 300 tdi auto. Replaced serpentine belt and tensioner, timing belt kit bought reday to replace next weekend.

Brought it back from wales yesterday and temperature gauge running in middle, heater nice and hot. If i use it locally temperature gauge does not run above 1/4 and the heater only luke warm. (Takes an age to raise the temp gauge at all)

I have found that driving locally about 1500 rpm it stayed at 1/4 temp, but if i take it on a run and keep revs over 1700 it's fine

Any suggestions?

My guess would be Thermostat

ok many thanks. I'll change it when i do the timing belt next weekend.

Hi

My 300Tdi auto gets to normal operating temperature at approx. between 2 and 4 miles depending on outside temp, and stays there 'till I stop and park up.

Ok Good to know. I drove around today for about an hour at low revs and it didnt go above 1/4 temp. The minute i take it on the main road about 45-55 temp normal. Will fit new thermostat next weekend and see how we go. Thanks
