Hi

I'm new to this site, and was hoping that someone could help me please.
I was driving my 300 tdi a week ago,the fuel tank was 3/4 full, and came to a junction went to put my foot down, and it didn't do anything so crawled onto the hard shoulder,as i was sat in the car i noticed the fuel gauge was creeping up, so i bled it at the fuel filter and air bubbles did emerse. It was fine for the rest of the day, next morning it tried to do the same but it sorted itself out. it's been fine since. Filled up again this time it's just under Full mark, and it starts but can't get the thing to go anywhere it won't go above 1000 revs, i found wat looks to be a vacuum pipe off one of the injectors (one closest to the windscreen). connected the pipe back up and still can't get it going.
Any help would be much apreciated!!

If you're getting bubbles (or were) at the filter then I'd go with the lift pump diagnosis as well.

Thanks for the responses,
I'll fit a new lift pump then, hopefully this afternoon,
and will let you know the outcome.

Thanks

Have you removed and cleaned out the sedonometer bowl above the back axle, I had a similair problem where the engine would not rev and it was the bowl so full of sediment that it would not allow diesel to flow through. Do not just remove the drain plug at the bottom but undo the 7/16" bolt at the top of the housing and remove the bowl (messy as it always runs down your arm!!).

Well decided to go down the sedimentor bowl option first, cause when i thought about it, (given myself headache now!!!!) i don't think it has been cleaned out for a long time. So went to undo the screw on the top, and i think someone in the past has had a good go at it, and i can't get it to do anything.
So i think im going to have to take it off at the bracket has anyone got any advice or an easier option as the bolts on the brackets look well and truly rusted up?

Thanks

As yet I have never cleaned sedimentor bowl as have heard that you have a 50% chance of snapping that bolt if it's seized!!!

If it looks well dodgy I would try and get a new one first (or a scrapper) before starting that way your covered if it bust's, as on a diesel fuel line the slightest leak and you are going to have problems!!!!!

I did my sedementor bowl recently what a pain , get new bits prior its far easier to replace, and copper grease up all bits prior to putting back. i had a similar problem to yours, i also changed the lift pump get a good one with the proper seal/gasket not a cheapo one, it turned out it was the fuel injection pump:( , this all started with a disconnected air hose by drivers screen in engine bay T piece, good luck

Well i did the sedimentor, and tried it after that, it was exactly the same.
So thought i would try lift pump next but can't get one till tomorrow now.
I was just looking round it to make sure i hadn't missed anything, and found a pipe split that joins onto the bottom of the intercooler and onto the turbo, so taped that up to see if it made a difference, and it did. took the tape back off to try and prove that it was the pipe, it ran fine when i took the tape back off, but it was chucking out alot of blue smoke both times, im hoping that this is just because its been sat for a couple of weeks. or maybe a tempremental lift pump??? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks alot

That confirmed my thoughts, i'll replace that first and keep you posted.

Well changed the intercooler hose that was split, and i've done about 80 mile in it since, and all seems well at the minute, So thanks again for the advice and help.
