Hi Guys,

Long time since I have chatted on here but have a personal dilemma. Do I sell her or do her up?

She has been a special car as she was my first luxury 4 x 4 I have ever owned. I called her Eddie (out of Absolutely Fabulous - old but still beautiful).

Since 2016 she has been sat in a dry barn as had problems with her cutting out and hubby doesn't want to have anything more to do with her. This was after she went to a dealers in France who replaced all the injectors but didn't solve the problem. Engine turns over gets hot but not running smoothly. ABS replaced by normal braking system and brakes are binding. Air con not working. Electric seats, windows and sun roof not working. Tailgate corrosion. No CT.
I have a guy who is interested in her coming to view soon but can I let her go?????

What would you do?

Don't let it go too cheap, they are worth a lot these days. If you have the cash, I would do it up. Illegal to sell a car in France with no CT.

I'd do a bit of homework on leboncoin to give you an idea of it's value and then decide from there. You can sell it without a c.t just make it clear before the sale. Good luck in your choice, it's a nice car😎👍

If it's rust free, unless the engine is knackered, the cost of fixing it should not be too great. Don't take to to a dealer, you need to find an independent that specialises in Land Rovers, I know of 2 that I would trust but they are not near you. If you can find such a specialist near you, get it trailered to them for an estimate. If it's got major rust problems forget it.
It's old enough this year to be registered as a voiture de collection which exempts it from the emissions restrictions in some places including I think Paris, so a useful car and it will only need a CT every 5 years..

Thanks Mark good advice! Yes thought you could sell without a CT. They are certainly going for a lot more in France than UK - just seen one up for 4000 euros and looks worse than mine! :)

Hi Datatek, Engine starts after being left since but getting a bit hot! Not sure on rust but have a great guy down the road who will give me his honest opinion. Great news about it being registered as a voiture de collection. You are swaying me to use my pension money now:D:D

That is not how I understand the law re the CT. It states that a CT less than 6 months old is necessary when selling.

Getting a bit hot could just be the viscous fan, a common failure item. I assume that the coolant level is OK?
I can give you info on getting it re-registered if you decide to keep it, I did my MR2 last year. Not expensive but some paperwork needed.

Thanks Datatek. She has been insured since being off-road. Why do you need to re-register?

OK thanks for the info. We were told by Credit Agricole that a vehicle had to be insured even if off road. Not like SORNing a vehicle in the UK.
All the insurance companies say that but as far as I can see, if it's on private land it's not necessary, my MR2 was in storage for 15 years or so uninsured. Direct Assurance are cheaper than Credit Agricole.

Interesting read.

As you are probably aware structural corrosion is the biggest killer of LR products, the Classic is certainly no exception so the condition of the shell is your starting point. I suggest you do your homework re. the likely cost of restoration vs value of the vehicle once up to an acceptable resale standard.

Classics are getting rare & as always the original iteration of a design is the best.

Understood my good man.
In the last couple of years I've sold three landrovers bought for small fees and sold them all on with the logbooks and no CT's. After that the new owner deals with the paperwork, part of the agreements had at the time 👍

ANTS would not accept my paperwork without confirmation from the seller but I'm no expert in French paperwork
