Hello, ive got a land rover 90 from 1986, and the ride is very harsh and i heard of people changing these to the range rover police spec springs but i was wondering are they also that harsh? and would the landy stay square?
ive also heard you can put an audi vvt turbo on a 200tdi engine but how dificult is it?
Kind regards,Sytse

I think its BEL auto services who do the vnt/vgt and they also list it on ebay, best part of a grand though!
Changing any turbo is easy, so long as the securing nuts dont shear the manifold studs!

I am a litle tight because i am still a student, I heard that a complete conversion with an audi turbo would cost around 150 pounds.
Regards,Sytse

Think you will find that RR classic (police spec) springs are harder ride than normal due to them carrying a lot of weight, RR is also heavier as standard than 90 so springs will be stiffer..

A 'complete conversion' suggests a package by a tuner including a new turbo and any associated custom oil feeds, or hoses etc - I'm sorry to say, but won't find any new turbo (particularly for an Audi) for £150 - try twice, three times or even four times that for a genuine one!

You may pick up some second hand bits for £150, but you're going to have to find someone who knows what is required as I don't think it is very common.

You also word it as if the conversion might include the fitting, which I think is a little optimistic even if the turbo is easily accessible on defenders.

before you start messing with fancy turbos, the cheapest way to get mopower is a good service, including washing out the intercooler.
Then google for pump tweaking and on a 200 you can afford to turn the turbo up a touch using a gauge so you dont over do it.
if you want a fast motor, buy one, not a fender/90

spring specs are interesting. my rrc has been converted to coils and sits on its arse with my trailer attached.

Plus if you are a student can you afford to either:

modify your vehicle and pay the astronomic premiums that a mod like this will attract

or

not admit to the mod and hope you don't have an accident requiring the services of an insurance assessor or get tugged by VOSA

Turboing any car isn't a clever thing to do for a student unless you are a seriously mature and minted student.

it looks i like il stick with the original turbo setup i will.
If i would like some more mpg do i have to turn the pump up so it runs a bit more eficient? or do i have toe turn it down so it uses les fuel and have an engine not as powerfull as i would like?
and i think i am going for RR police spec springs are the springs from paddockspares any good?
Kind regards,Sytse

In my country you dont have to register the vnt turbo so that is another problem solved :)
I saw an audi turbo on a defender 200tdi and it fitted straight on the original manifold but will it fit in an old land rover 90 with a discovery 200tdi engine?
I am also going for an uprated intercooler, and is a straight trhu exhaust worth it?
Kind regards, Sytse

You can get a recon VW/Audi VNT turbo for £500ish.

Don't forget there are different types, you have the Turbo on the VE engined VW TDI's, then there's the PD TDI Turbos, and there are different sized ones according to output (VE engined 90 to 130bhp standard, PD engine 100 to 150bhp standard) so it's not as simple as bolting a VW VNT turbo on you need to get the right sized one.
