Morning all I have a p38 auto diesel drive to work ok this morning. Went to move it a little later and engine is stalling on idle if I rev engine runs but rev counter is dropping. I’ve been doing a lot of short trips with everything on and I’m getting traction failure a lot. I’m thinking weak battery unless anyone else has any suggestions?

If the battery turns it over to start it should be fine. Stalling from idle when gear is selected or steering inputs are used when moving slowly or stationary is usually quantity servo problem. Diag needed.
Well it seems to have fixed it’s self now but I was stalling even before I had a chance to go into gear to touch the steering wheel

Low battery volts can cause all sorts of problems, check the alternator output voltage at the battery, should be a minimum of 13.8 volts at 2Krpm unless the alternator has been replaced when it should be 14.7 which is better for modern batteries.

Keep your eye out for someone with a Nanocom and get a trace of your EDC inputs. Might give a heads up before it fails on you.
When was the last time the intercooler was flushed out and new filters fitted? Check all turbo pipes are tight too and then an Italian tune-up.

As said earlier if the battery is strong enough to crank for starting it is strong enough to run the EDC. You need diag on it to read stored faults. Guessing is a fools game..

There will be someone local to you with a Nanocom. Reading the faults will take all of two minutes.

Was the car low on fuel? It has been known for a failing lift pump to cause this. Some lift pumps are fitted with an NRV. If the pump fails or is failing the injection pump cannot suck fuel past the NRV. That would cause your problem. Look in tech area for instructions how to test lift pump function.
