I don't really know.... but my thoughts are that it'll hardly make any difference to your consumption, but might help you pass your local emissions laws check.

In an ideal world I'd buy the best quality generic CATs I could afford from Magnaflow or somewhere, and weld them in to the original pipe work. The main problem with that is that I can't weld, and don't own any welding equipment!

I'm pretty sure my cheap-o ones restrict more than the old LR ones did... The housing is much more narrow for a start, and smaller overall. The pipe is the same size though. Maybe the design has improved over the years but I doubt it!

Whenever I have to get my crossmember back in, I always wedge one end in, and then clout the other end with the lump hammer. There is a sort of champfered edge to help it along. Once it's started, I keep clouting until I can line up a coule of the holes and we're away!
