hi thanks for that wasnt sure i thought torque convertor. would you happen to know if i can drop my box out and put another box straight in and connect it up?

If you know what you are doing and you have the correct facilities that is not a problem. If you don't and you haven't it is.

You can but it has to be one off a P38, you can also with a bit of extra work fit the stronger ZF4HP24 from the 4.6 petrol, need to change the bell housing. A recon torque convertor would be a good idea if you drop the box.

would the gear ratios still be same as i thought i could only install one from p38 4.0l or 2.5?

Gear ratios are the same and you must use the existing ECU not the one from the 4.6. The box is longer but the spacer between the box and the transfer box is shorter so the overall length is the same. I plan to fit the HP24 when I finally get round to replacing my gearbox.
The HP22 is near the torque limit for the diesel.

cheers for that i am hoping i can find one for the right price now. i am going to do the box first as i am a little short on cash so i will do the torque convertor in the next 2 months.

will a 4.0 or 4.6 front prop fit on my diesel p38?

hi yeah i might need a hand not sure, i have a mate who works at s & m motors in murton which is also frrelander spares, hes been pretty good working on cars with me.

I have garsy coming over to take a look at it next week but when i looked at the oil on dipstick it didn't look black. what does TQ stand for?

you will need deep pockets for garsy to do it:eek: :D

i used to take cars to s&m years ago they are a good bunch of lads

have you thought of having a word with Andy over at haswell he is pretty reasonable with the prices and does a good job he works out of the barn just past mencap

my lasses uncle knows him well according to him but i will see i think my mind is made up that am going to put a box in to be truly honest?

really need somewhere dry to work as my garage wont take the range rover being jacked up as it just say fits in now

No idea, but I would have thought they would be the same length.

Diesel prop is TVB000130 petrol FTC4140. Don't see why there are two different part numbers if they are the same.

what was oil like

what was oil like

Oil was brown/ black and filter was filthy too. Its started to sort of work in reverse but takes loads of revs to move a few inches and i have very slight incline on my drive and as soon as it was trying to get up it just stopped dead.
Figured it is a reverse clutch so i have decided to get a second hand box.

Reverse only slightly worked in low range

might just be clutch b only needs bell housing and pump housing removing to check ,plus ensure any oil residue in another box is red if you get one
