Hi,

I just wondering if anyone has had a new head gasket recently for a disco 2 and if so if a garage carried out the repairs what price you paid and how many man hours.

I've a chap in London who's doing some work for me whom charges £60 an hour and the head gasket is £940 and AMG

Cheers,

Nick

Stuff a bottle of K-Seal in it (about a tenner) and see if that fixes it. Did that with my old Ford Explorer (4.0 litre V6) and it ran or years after without a problem. If that don't work you're well stuffed.

I'm using the vehicle for a long trip, Don't fancy using a bottle of K-Seal ha ha.

Good advice though

Elring are the OEM for TD5 HG, not sure where AMG comes into it?

Never had a garage do it but have done my own...

£960 for parts seems way over the top though. Head fitting kit should be about £150+VAT for quality items (OE head bolts).

Or are you saying they expect to burn 960 in total including labour? either way minus the parts that's ~ 13 hours labour which seems a bit high.

That's for TD5 btw, you didn't say TD5 or V8.

TD5 - It's come to £1954 (20 hours labour) :(

Are you sure that £940 doesn't include an AMC head? If so then it is good value. If it is just for a gasket and bolts then ask for an £800 discount.

Do you even know if the head is ok?

I'd say it's too much even including a new head, there's maybe 1 to 2 hours labour in swapping the cam and injectors over and perhaps another 100 quid if replacing all the bolts washers, o-rings, gaskets. 20 hours labour is just way too much.

None of this helps the OP though really :(

Yeah it includes the AMC head and weirdly enough it is LRR in Charlton :), I'm dealing with Phil there whom has been really helpful. Was just curious about pricing as I have no idea and lots of people have been saying i've been ripped off which i didn't think was the case.
