Rear seats for small children....

I have a TD5 90 Hardtop and would like, if possible, to fit a rear seat (preferably folding) which would be suitable for a child seat. I have been looking on eBay and found some seats however when I contacted the seller about them he said they were not crash-tested for child seats and sent a link to another model (which looks exactly the same) - item 231030452136. Obviously a significant cost difference as these are nearly £400 each and the other ones I had seen from same seller were £180.

If this is possible does anyone know where I could get such a seat without spending a fortune and what the MOT implications would be (i.e. it is not a two seater anymore).

If there is nothing suitable/cheap enough the wife will have to stay at home!

I'd have a chat to your insurance first, mine's a hardtop and when I insured it I had to stipulate that it only had three seats so no one is insured if they sit in the back.

Just a thought...
 
It would still have three seats but I don't think I would get away with it as the third would be in the back. Point taken with the price issue although £400 for one seat is ridiculous !!! £200 is almost bearable.
 
Been down this route myself.

Gave up in the end. The only ones suitable/safe enough for child seats are the exmoor trim ones for circa £400 a pop.

Minibus seats are possible at they have built in seatbelts but putting in suitable load plates and then filling up all your load space ALL the time makes that option not suitable for me.

Truth is..... get a 110 or a second car for family!

Not when you figure how many times you use it and for the years you do use one. It is just a few P a day for your kids safety. What kind of cheap parent are you:mad:

If you can not afford the proper safety items for your children, then get your nuts cut

Plica foldaway ambulance seats. Cost £80 for the pair. £40 brackets fabricated out of 4mm mild steel. Far sturdier than exmoor seats.

Fitted in with 9 bolts. Plates underneath wheel arch. Independent vehicle survey £50. Insurance informed.

Cheers I wasn't actually being tight or putting kids at risk otherwise I wouldn't have bothered asking. Just think £400 for one seat is excessive
