Disco 2 Rear Disks

well passed the MOT the other day ,seeing i got the car with front and rear new disks in the boot ,I changed the front while sorting out another thing that it failed the MOT on
So now it was time to change the rear

right after a little battle with the screw that holds the disks on (had to use a impact screw driver) i managed to get disks off ,they def needed changing as you can see below there not covering all the disk!!!!


any ideas why its done this??? i assume or hope its because i found that one of the caliper sliders had seized because the rubber is missing ,managed to get it moving again,took the slider out ,cleaned it all up and regreased it for now,will get new slidders once i have some ££££££

any way the other disk,as you can see there seems to be a lot of grease on the inside of it!!! what courses this???

is it a leak in the rear drive shaft some how????

again above you can see the flange is rather dame with grease/oil ???

rear brakes do that as less force is applied to them ,autos tend to have better discs

There is a rubber seal that goes between the hub and the casing. It could be leaking. More likely (unfortunately) the hub itself is letting oil through onto the brake discs etc. Either way it will smell of Diff oil if so.
Try the seal if you can, if not its new hub time. (Mot failure btw if oil seen on the discs- for obvious reasons!!)

i will have a good look tomorrow at it,lucky for me it passed its MOT 3 days ago so at least i can get it sorted with out the pressure of needing a MOT

I've got the same problem with ours - changed the rear discs a few weeks ago and the pads/discs were absolutely plastered in grease.
It went into LR main dealers to have some warranty work done - mentioned it to them and they weren't interested and passed it through MOT!!

Asked what will happen to the wheel bearings which are obviously no longer greased and sound like a bag of nuts - got a shoulder shrug. I've noticed LR main dealers are so snobby when dealing with older vehicles. Unless its £100k range rover they can't be a***d!

But yes - it's the wheel bearing seal which fails and spews grease out onto the brakes.

Hub seals, I did mine today.

where they a ball breaker to change?????
