Yes plse as would be good for such an expert to have a look

Will send u a pm mate and bless u as very grateful

Funny enough I did wonder that about the weld , seeing these tack welds makes me believe of them just putting a narrower sill plate on

Thks again mate
It always looks worse when you start a job like that Gary, but as the old rusty metal is cut away and new metal is let in, it's a great feeling.

As always, the help and advice from the forum is fantastic (and a bit of friendly pee taking) and you will have your lovely Disco back on the road soon.

Hi mate, sorry to see/ hear about the metal worm problems 😢. I can't believe for vehicles that aren't cheap to buy new LR, knowing what these type of use vehicles will potentially be used for, they couldn't go a bit further with rust prevention D1's body/D2's chassis/ D3&4's with what you're suffering.

My mate loves his later Rangie and spends thousands on it, it looks stunning but almost monthly, something else needs replacement or fixed.
I aways say that, for the money these things cost, they should last longer than they do.
I had an old Nissan Terrano which didn't let us down, or drip oil, for the 10 plus years we had it.

I know you buy into the brand and all that, but they should be better put together.
With the way they either rust away or the fragile engines break down, it's amazing JLR still sell anything

Many thks as always for the awesome support and help , of course the pee taking is standard here , lol

Noticed more and more report of rusty sills are coming up, along with water ingress to the cabins fuse box from sunroof drains

Side steps becoming water traps for the sills, also the rear wheel arch rusting out

Suppose things like this should be expected for a 20 x years old motor

Indeed would like to see a modern landy in 20 x Years time as I expect the electrics will start to fail seeing there’s so much of it

Ie, cabin displays and endless modules dotted throughout the vehicle

Am impressed with the chassis on the d3 seeing there’s no rust , don’t know if that’s down to the dinitrol that was injected and sprayed onto the chassis and underside , the rust seems to stop in its tracks as it gets nearer to the treatment areas

At least jlr have made improvements from the d1/2 leading to the d3/4 of hoe they’ve reduced the rust

Haven’t seen any drain holes on the sills, did fit the rock sliders, sprayed inside and out and drilled some drain holes, inside still looks like new

Does seem the more plastic trim parts there are the more chance of rust issues as they trap mud, leaves etc

Plus there’s the factor of what other motor serves my needs, for comfort , room and ease of driving on the motorway as it eats the miles effortlessly

Fingers crossed it can be repaired and will of course update u

Thks agin and have a great Sunday

Hi mate still waiting to speak to Howard about available panels it occurred to me after our conversation why not do all work at my workshop sometime when weather warms up, could do all jobs, mot and drive it home, as you know I have a mig, just need a bit of time to clear up a couple of projects, and you can have use of workshop and myself foc mate cant see you pay all that money I also have a machine shop down the road they can cut any shape and bend from a template so can make any patch needed
As you also know I have played some ridiculous prices for Last couple of D4s if your interested in future will do you a project at cost, I know something black 8 speed black leather with electrical or suspension issues no worries lol looking out for you
all the best mate

Oh mate that would be amazing plse and thk u so very much as that’s a brilliant offer and save me a lot of money

Have seen the sill panels but that’s fantastic ref the machine shop if I need anything

That would also be a fantastic opportunity if a D4 comes up cheap Plse as would be a fantastic project and getting something newer along the way

So grateful as that’s an awesome plan for spring time and something to look forward to

Hope ur projects are going well mate and thks again

Hi mate home safe and sound, your D3 is in good company here in Norfolk and has many new friends, (see pic) very quiet motor noticed straight away
Will take next day or so to get to a workable position reshuffle needed, difficult to picture rusty bits until jacked up and on stands, will make a plan usually worst side first, nice to meet you at last even though briefly
You seem to have all parts needed so can get on soon pics of covers and little mud flaps? I saved for you
Forgot to take pictures on Shaun's lorry, more pictures soon

Ur a true legend mate in helping me with this , oh yes plse ref those cover mudflaps as that would be awesome

Really hope it doesn’t give u too much hassle

Always wondered that about the engine and food to get a second opinion on it , know I’ve always changed the oil and filter year after year and looked after it the best I could

That’s great as I was worried that I had forget to put something in the boot for u mate

Know it’s in very safe capable hands and having a nice sunny holiday in Norfolk 🤣

Massive thks once again and think there will be sharp intakes of breath once the rusty sills have been uncovered

Appears to be all drivers side removed passenger side trim, cill all good outer and inner, when all along underside with a dolly hammer in fact as good as they get, brakes pipes seem ok so far but once jacked up can see better but to be honest are mostly all plastic coated OEM
Drivers side different story but not so bad as replacing rather than patches well minimal to end of cills
And as the mot says rear bottom arms will be an advisory but not as bad as first thought
Suspect they checked drivers side and assumed passengers would be the same
All the best

That’s awesome news mate , alas they said they had pushed a screwdriver through on both sides of the inner sills

Terrible when ur told porkies with it just being the drivers side

At least it’s handy I’ve got the inner and outer sills if the passenger side ever needed doing at some stage , plus see there are some online that don’t have the proper holes drilled

Many thks as good know , I’ll get some new lower wishbones , along with new panhard rods etc , don’t know how bad they are to change , but know they won’t be anything like the rear uppers , they were swines

So grateful mate and bless u for the update

Hi mate mot inspector going to go over your D3 tomorrow, going to check brakes, for corrosion and leaks as per proper mot, but am pretty sure their ok, but could be proven wrong, will see, will also check for welding, myself can have a look over pit and will take a few pictures for you all the best

Hi mate removed the back part of the passenger cill cover, managed to get cover self tappers out, Hands up was proved wrong, hole at bottom/back of cill, but they couldn't have known as you couldn't see, and I poked the hole, inside the cill still has coating so caught at right time perfect apart from small area pictured, your call is two options cut out small rot area and replace with section leaving factory joints of rest intact or replace entire cill, drivers side needs entire replacement, brake pipes one or two grey areas but no leaks and only minor rusting would be an advisory but we'll replace as it's here
Hopefully in workshop by weekend and can get started next week
Had to give it a quick wash

Bless u my friend and knew nothing would get past u , im so extremly grateful

Would u mind replacing the passenger side as well plse so then it takes all the worry away of any rust starting again on the sills

Many thks for giving it a clean , would be interesting to see what u think of the bodywork, think its in good nick particularly for its age at 20 x years old

Am beyond grateful to u mate for doing this for me , did wonder about the brake pipes seeing I was getting air in them and brake pedal dropping

Indeed incredible of how much those sill trims cover so much , see more and more that have the side steps where they become water traps to rust the sills out

Massive thks again mate and will be interesting to see what there like as the sills are stripped off , think my jaw will drop 🤣

Stay safe and well and also great that this brings attention to others in what to look out for

Have a great week mate and thk u from the bottom of my heart
