Hi guys,

just bought my first Defender - totally made up with it...

Only problem is getting it through an MOT as there's play in the rear bearings.

Guy i bought it from says they are brand new bearings on the back and he fitted them himself, just needs tightening up...(he'd help me do it but he's in Wales)

The garage (not landy speciailaists) say there's something wrong as even when fully tightened there's still play...and it's causing oil/grease to escape and get on the pads.

There's also signs of wear on the components in side (not sure what they are called but i have a couple of pics to show this - when i figure out how to post them).

The garage dont know what to do to fix it...can anyone offer any advice?(at the moment i'm wishing i'd never taken it in there)

Have a feeling i need to find a landy mechanic! Does anyone know anyone good around High Wycombe, Bucks?? Cheers.

where are you, in the unlikely event you have problems someone may be local

Cud just be that the oil seal has been put on wrong or the sharp edge of it has caught and twisted - more likely than the stub axle, speshly if it was replaced by someone wot dun know/wants to get rid quick. The seal is about a quid, new stub axle is loads more.

cheers guys - i plumped for a specialist case i stuff it up then cant get it anywhere to sort it out - still awaiting the diagnosis...the garage is radgnage land rovers - seems to know his stuff!
