Radius arm bush replacement cost

Just wondered if anyone has a general idea of the cost to have the front radius arm bushes replaced? Just had mine done and not sure if I've paid over the odds, I supplied the replacements, split polybush type and new bolts and the original axle bolts were free and not siezed into the bushes or anything nasty. Thanks.
 
I did mine myself, but not the gay polybush type, so if you paid anything at all, I'd say you were robbed!

Apart from bunging a mate a pint or so to use his press .. :)

How much did you pay? Where at? (Nosey beggar, I am)
 
I know the bolts were not siezed because i had undone them and tapped them partially out as I was planning on doing the job myself last week, due to the weather I put it in my local place for them to sort.
 
Personally I have always done them myself with no press, burning etc.
Hole cutter, hacksaw and a tap with a hammer....... out they come, all done in about 10-15 minutes (each).
Split Polly ones practically fall into place (well, almost!).

Go on, how much?????????????????
 
Well that's how I'd planned to do it, they were pretty worn so I was going to push rubber and centre out then split outer with hacksaw and push out with my big vice. Labour was £200.

Yeah, I think you've had your pants pulled down a bit there.
If they have a press it's easy. However, if you don't have a press it's not that easy. Maybe it's my hacksaw, but I found it a bit of a PITA doing mine.

Well I expected £50-60 a side, they had a press but said they were a right git to get out, live and learn, I usually sort stuff myself but I have little space to work since moving, always seem to come away dissatisfied when I use garages and don't even get me started on main dealers!

I haven't done them using a press, so I don't really know how long it would take. However, I'd be surprised if it took more than 15 mins to push one out and a new one in. ie all four in an hour. Therefore, 1 x hourly rate. That's assuming no hitches. Then there's the personal factor of how much we'd pay to save the hassle of a particular job. :rolleyes:

I know, realise it prevented me sitting out in the rain and I'm not really moaning as at least the clonk when taking up drive has gone and it drives much better, I just wondered for my own sake if that was the going rate for the job?
 
Yeah, perhaps a bit over the going rate. But, job done, ya warm, dry, still got ya knuckles, haven't snapped a few hacksaw blades or drill bits. Then there's the time to prop the Landy up, remove the arms and then fit them all back up.
 
Did mine a few weeks ago, judging by your bill my hydraulic press paid for itself plus a bit. They take about 60 seconds per bush with the press, using the new ones to push the old ones out.

you were very lucky as they can be extremely difficult to remove with a press or even cut in many places, using a new bush to push an old one out isnt a good idea

The reason I asked is my bolts also came undone but were seized solid in the bush centre, fcuk me what a job getting the fookers out, I was most peed off as I had slathered them in grease when I last changed them.
Changing the bushes was easy, it was them bloody bolts

I dont like paying anybody to do anything for me as I always end up disappointed, If Ive done the job and am not entirely happy I always think to myself A, I saved a ****e load of money and B, now I know the score its no big deal to rectify my mistakes in the future.

I rebushed all of mine with out a press, it was a PITA. Took ages.

£200 Is only three or four hours Labour, if they encountered difficulties you can understand it.

That's 3 hours when blokey can't be doing anything else.

That's why I tried mine before hand, I'd heard they sieze into the centre of the Bush, I'd bought new bolts anyway as I was told they should be replaced??
 
Couple of weeks ago I had my local garage do the entire suspension of my 110, i.e. all the bushes front/rear and the a-frame ball joints, they charged me £30 for it. That was with me supplying the new bushes and all the arms etc. loose and ready to go. If they'd been on the vehicle I'd expect to pay a lot more as it's getting the arms off that entails all the faffing about.

It's about the only job I'll pay others to do, as I don't have a press and it's so cheap. Changing them yourself is okay if you're using polyurethane style ones but I much prefer genuine Metalastik one myself.

Er yeah. You were shafted. I'd go back and crap in the driveway in retribution. At the very least I'd let people know where the robbing gits are based.
