WELDING GRINDING HELMET 4 optical sensor solar cells on eBay (end time 11-Dec-10 14:02:45 GMT)

i know its a chinese one but if you want a uk made one you gotta pay £150+
got one of those cheapies from dorset steam fair.
found i was getting arceye when i'd used it, so went
back to standard hand held. use the reactalight mask only when i need two hands now.(mainly tig)
couldnt find any details on the speed of autodarkening for it.

dunno what mine was, didnt seem any different to others i've used, but the problem of hurty eyes went when i changed back.
mebe just not used to them?

Well i did manage to set light to me jeans last night anorl, right at the bottom, when i was squatting down to weld, my arse was getting warm and i couldn't figure out what it was....

As for a mask, mine is the handheld one gaffer taped to my site hat, it even flips up.

never heared of that one before does it actually work

sounds a lot like treating a coldsore with dog**** ( stops yer licking yer lips then ):D:D:D:D:D:D
me old man told me that one, it does wonders for arc eye as it returns the oils and fats back to old eyeball... it works.

The reason why your eyes hurt at night and not while you are welding is coz they are repairing themselves....
The worst welding i have ever done was with dissimilar rods on stainless lifted my mask and the slag hit me right in the fookin eye.
Had to work all night with one eye closed.....NEVER AGAINE!!!

fooking slag ;)

Another trick you can try is move the earth, you can weld towards it or away from it, a bit trick with tube I spose, try earthing one tube then weld more on the other one, forcing the weld current accross the join.
On occaision you can get arc blow, happens more with inverter welders, welding accross the join or away from the earth clamp helps.
Allthough I very much suspect the problem is the plating.
And as mentioned you dont wanna get welders moan, its not pleasant.

thats nothing! i was welding an inner sill on a mk2 sierra and set me head alight! well me hair anyhow!

Did similar, welding in a confined space and kept getting glare from the reflections so in my infinite wisdom I screwed a tea towel to my mask to keep the light out.

Took about 5-10 mins before I was throwing my mask across the room trying to put my hair out :p

then there was the time i set my seat on fire ;) serves me right for using an office chair to try and get long continuous welds.

i had a bomber fall off a weld i waas doing bout 10 years ago wich hit my fly in me jeans thought it had gone but actually found it burning its wat to me knackerrs ive never took me pants off as quick in my life !!!!

Assessing the damage to my jeans the other night, it had actually landed on my trainers and was smoldering away before catching the ol' jeans alight :D

Prepped abit today, got the afternoon to tackle it again, so off to do some more, haven't picked up any rods, but as the other welds weren't bad, i'm more to thinking it's me rather than the rods.

Warming em up in the oven atm.

be carefull not to get them too hot, will have an adverse effect and the flux will fall off the rod and not protect the weld.

arc welding takes a little practice but when available i would choose it over mig unless welding thin metal or having to do one pass vert/pipe welds.

I got them on the door (open)to warm them up abit more than anything, i would use the mig but out of wire and this one i've borrowed is a right pain to set up, it's abit cheap i think.
