No, the hubs needs removing to press out + being the spotlessly clean mechanoporn ocd chap that I am have replaced all the bearing and seals + new HD drive members at the same time

I doubt it, the 60mm studs wouldn't fit especially the fronts with discs as there's no space - personally, trying to fudge something isn't worth it when it's only a weekend's work to strip, press out, rebuild, press home...and have spotlessly clean new axles/hubs ;)

eta: 3 down, 1 to go...just popped in for a bacon and eggs lunch
 
For those of you tempted to fit longer studs, it's job done. Two axles a day including all new bearings and brakes. It's not a difficult job, just takes a little patience, the right tools and a dial gauge for your end float :)
 
These are 45 mm thread and around 50 mm OA, the STD are 40 mm thread. These work out at 3/16 longer and will look like this on a genuine LR HD rim:

Don't trust the part number, it should be the longer stud but some sellers use that number for the 40 mm. Just make sure its 45mm thread.

This is a large size splitter and I had to open out the fork by 1/6" to clear the stud heads. There's one spot where there's enough clearance. Admire the wrapped springs while you're there.

what did you wrap the springs in? I am thinking of doing the same with my Sankey trailer
 
Guys,as you know I've just fitted 60mm 10.9 studs - pricewise, if you search online you can find bulk buy costs that are nowhere near some of the prices generally quoted. I ended up buying mine as 20 off for low cost back in February as saw them at heavily discounted rate and they arrived in Land Rover G part serial #'d bags.
 
I think this is central to the whole issue. Because the so called "Wolf studs" can be anywhere up to £6 each which adds up to £120 which puts people off. The 45/46mm fit Wolfs just fine and at 48p that's a £9.60p job which a whole world different. That or shop around for the 60mm on offer, either way I think the dealers pricing up the 60mm studs and not also pointing to the 46mm have to take some blame for the whole argument about stud legnth.

Thats far too clean and tidy. When I fitted my modular I wasn't happy about the amount of stud pertruding but enough is enough and once loose a bit more isnt gonna make much difference. But if its cheap and quick I would consider it no brainer.

I am just about to buy some 45mm studs the same part number as your link. Will i need metric or imperial tread nuts?
 
Agreed, std M16 nuts, should be the same. Just double check that they have the 45 mm in stock not the 40.
Someone asked about the spring wrap, its Denso tape or "petro" tape if you are near a Toolstation, use the 3" version, 2" is too narrow and 4" won't wrap easily.
Its horrendously sticky and messy but once on its stays on for several years. I reel should do 2 springs.
