It cost £133 for the testing and skimming

you need a more friendly engineer mine charged me £40 for skimming n testing :D

the well seal will squeeze out the sides when you tighten the head down but thats how it seals any little gaps,

Put the wellseal on a brush and paint it on,and leave for a couple of mins, its very sticky and sounds odd i know but it does work well.

Next problem I want to relace the chain and sprockets, how do I undo the crank shaft pulley bolt.
Everything is off the front, so Im left only trying to grab the pulley with something to stop it turning so I can get some purchase on the end bolt.
Also what way does the bolt turn to get it off left or right looking at the engine from the front?

I'm changing the water pump and have that off the car so same quiestion does the visous coupling turn left or right to undo.?

Try locking the flywheel with something like a pry bar, i think its a normal right hand thread.(but dont quote me on that as its along time since i did mine!!)

Got the pulley off by making a bar that bolted to the back of the pulley using the 2 holes that are in the pulley. Then this bar stopped the crank turning as it pressed against the bottom of the chassis. I then undid the nut, anti-clockwise looking at the front of the engine.
I was also surprised that I had to take the sump off to get the front cover to come off, what a daft design.

Here is a pic of the play in the chain which did seem a lot but I will find out tomorrow how bad it was when I fit the new chain.

Another question how did I get the woodruff key out s I can replace the bottom sprocket.

sprocket should just pull off and you should get a chain with top and bottom sprockets in a chain set. If youve gone that far id do the cam and lifters, and maybe even the big ends.

The new chain and sprockets are one as well as a new water pump, and 15 years of grime removed from the front of the engine.
