Our group, likely.

We'd followed a track, clearly marked at the start with no indication as to direction, that later went across a field according to the map.

Half of us got across the field, through a gate and while we waited for the others further along the track, the farmer came along the road, stopped his tractor almost out of sight and walked over. He shouted us we'd gone over his field and not used the track. We apologised, he agreed the track couldn't be driven, but that it was the legal route through 'his' field. It was also legal where we were parked and through the gate, just that going over his field was wrong. We agreed with him that those still in the field turned round, those of us on the legal bit carried on. He suggested this as best for the land .. and he left quite happily that we were going to update Trailwise

We were probably 10 yards from the 'real' track, an honest mistake when using 1:50000 maps, he said only trailbikes make it through these days and we chatted about various things .. He started off beligerent, and left us quite happily!

Dunno how he took numbers 'cos he never went near the vehicles.

The actual track was a jumble of broken walls and trees/hawthorn bushes .. i doubt I'd ride a bike through! When we got to the road there was again a Public Way sign, but no indication or signage that there was a one way system or traffic direction in force. How were we to know that?

He's talking out his arse, basically ... ;)
fairy nuff he was well p@@@ off the last i heard today.
but with the rain we have been having every body needs to think on.
at least i take my hat off to you for owning up.

Young chap, about 30 ish? Well, I thought he looked young .. :)

No worries, I'm 54 years old, just saying it's likely to have been us! No need to hide from it, we made a booboo of about 50 yards overall, being maybe 10 yards max from where we should have been.

He was happy, we were happy, we expect he's a bit grumpy 'cos we were so nice and apologetic and he couldn't rant and rave for long. We were actually gobsmacked that we weren't actually on the 'proper' route ...

It ain't an ideal world .. ;)

Not possible to prosicute !! How can he without witnesses or proof prove any reg number he chooses actually was on his field ??? Prove it I say !!

A real shame it wasn't reccied before being used by a group :(

Well done for talking the chap round but this reflects badly. I'm not blaming anyone, mistakes happen, but has anyone got any contact with him?

Maybe it's possible to compensate in some way, probably not the field but improve signs or wall repair.....something?

If we all think about it why do we all think the old girl at bottom of stile end comes out with her camera ?? No proof no claim !! Not sure who was on his field but if it was my field and knew of such problems then would put up markers etc

Well there's being a dick about it and there's manning up and accepting that you might be responsible and admitting so, like Paul D has done and good on him I say

We suggested something like that, and improving the real track, but he doesn't 'really' want people driving or riding even where it's legal, hence, I guess, why the track has walls pushed over and bushes left uncut ...

He just wanted us away and waved away any talk of compensation, even though his first shouts were who's gonna pay to fix his land .. it was a feckin' bog anyway!! Full of reeds and bullrushes, and Marram grasses but not a crop or anything useful. It was a tiny (in the scheme of things) triangle or corner of a decent sized field system that had a 50 yard long (generous) track going through it .. No-one maintained the track or signs so what does he expect.

I'd love to know the value of the land! .. and then what value he'd put on what we cut up!!

trailblazer, pm me the name of the track or land and I'll honestly check it .. I think I know where it is on the map now and have a name, if this ties in then it was us .. :)

Can I ask if this lane was on the Docs route. We did two days in the area and never came across this lane :confused::confused::confused:

I'm not suggesting that it isn't being blown out of proportion but that does nothing to change the way it reflects on us both as lane users and as a forum.

I've no issue at all with your conduct from what you've said but it would be nice to difuse accusations being made now if possible.....even if they're unfair

Dunno, I never got Doc's route .. I was in the middle of the group, I only had a tracker app on my phone, hence why I now know where we'd been., but couldn't lead ..

And I've nailed _exactly_ where it is, so can confirm or deny what the farmer says for definite if it is the same farmer.

As I say, a youngish chap, beligerent to start with but very happy and reasonably chatty when he left. Obviously not best mates but certainly happy we knew we were in the wrong and had apologised and done as best we could to remedy it.

If trailblazer can tell me the name of the parcel of land (the area it's in is on the OS map) or the track details, Grid Numbers etc, then I can say for definite it was or wasn't us, though I believe it was.

We never left the track at any point, certainly not near any fields

I know, which means the lane wasn't likely to be on the route for the trip.

In which case this doesn't belong in this thread.

If LZ members who were not on the trip did it, it will spoil the whole thing.

it was his land though so has a right to be upset

I ain't worrying .. He only knows it was an internet forum .. he certainly wasn't close enough to the vehicles to get either sticker names, LZ being a prominent name amongst A N Other groups, or number plates .. hence why I'm curious as to whether it actually was us ...

Unless he's just in the pub and giving it large after a few beers about buggers tearing up his land and having a general moan and groan ...

Agree wholeheartedly, but what was said to trailblazer (or what trailblazer heard) appears completely different to how 'the farmer' left us .. which makes me wonder if it was us, or whether it's a completely different group totally unknown to any of us ... the 'Southern Lakes' is a large place ....

Well Ive finally uploaded my photos:D

Sorry, I don't understand. We were on the trip, though possibly a different route, even though we met another party from 'the trip' a couple of times or more, so we definitely followed at least some of 'the trip' route ...

Spoil what whole thing Sue, I don't get you ..
