installed this today - soooooo much better to drive with it.

New winch bumper and spots - spots are bigger than i thought they were going to be! might get some smaller uns instead. But they are HID units and chuffin bright!

bumper is a little lower than i was hoping...

well had a bit of a ****ty weekend when it came to wheels, i recently purchased some pirelli scorpions off the forum, and was told one had a slight slit in them. Agreed.. no problem.

However took them to 4x4 tyres at the weekend to have them put on some new deep offset rims and AARRRGHHHH... 1 had a massive punture in the sidewall, 1 had the slit as previously mentioned, not too serious but warranted running a tube... however.. 1 had a mahosive 4" slit and was bulging so bad its just scrap.

Pretty fooked off to be honest.

Still 4x4 tyres are sorting me out with a new set of tyres instead, so thank you for that guys. Mind i will be 600 odd notes lighter haha.

first part of getting the farm is sorted, now we have to impress the "lady" of the manor!

time to get out me glad rags and my telephone voice

This weekend ill be chopping the roof on wombie and ripping off the dodgy back bulkhead conversion and installing the truck cab rear bit....

bit scared as ive not done alot of big bodywork mods in the past. apart from cutting the roof off my skoda felicia estate to make it a "convertible" (sigh happy memories of being an innocent yuff)

Got my roof rack bars yesterday, only to realise that the brackets arent tall enough... :violent:

bugger.

Waiting on my tree sliders to arrive, cant wait as they will make getting in and out alot more comfy! and make changing wheels and working on it easier as ill be able to use the hi jack.

Won a windscreen surround on ebay for a tenner which i need to collect. My current one has holes in it! Going to get a new seal and a heated screen for the front as i cannot be arsed with waiting around for the heaters to try to melt any ice on it.

Other things i need to sort are additional security. Im a bit concerned that when we move to this farm we will become "targets" for defender theft...

Well after reading about adjusting the play in the power steering box, i thought i would give it a go, a well known landy expert had told me the "box was fooked and wants replacing.. thatll be £###'s"

Thought id give it a go anyway.

5 mins later... omg its a different car... dialed out most of the slop and it drives spot on!

Cheers Landyzone for saving me a fortune!!!!!!

absolute doddle to do and i wish id done it weeks ago now. No longer am i dreading the MOT!

search for steering slop.. i did it slightly different from the guide as i didnt have a helper and i couldnt be bothered to take the wheels off the floor etc,

Heres what i did

I had approx 30 degrees of slop in my steering, which was making fast country lanes more difficult.

I popped the bonnet, looked down at the power steering box and there is an adjuster screw with a 17mm lock nut.

Cracked the locknut with a 17mm spanner and tweak the adjust screw 1/8 turn clockwise, retightened locknut.

All this was done with the engine running so the power steering is pressurised.

checked steering slop, pretty much the same... so repeated the process about 5 times until there was no slop whatsoever, I then backed the adjuster back off approx 15degrees to provide a lickle bit of slop and take pressure off the box.

tighten up locknut.

Ya done.

Piece of **** of its transformed the vehicle!

Its important you dont overdo the tightening of this screw as otherwise you will likely crash and die.... which would suck really.

PS this is just the way I decided to do it and not the way it should be done. The proper way is to get the wheels off the ground, make sure the steering is central etc...

but this is a quick n easy adjustment.

You take your own risks and I am not responsible if you die, so dont come moaning to me if you are brown bread.

:)

installed the first of the HID kits on the 110 last night, it was a little git to do, but now i know how to do it the other side will be much easier.

Installed my usual 35w systems that i flog to the motorbike lads as the 50watt versions are a bit too bright and get you flashed alot.

I have some pics I will upload tonight

Also installed a rad muff that i ordered the other day, quality is very good but I dont like the way it is designed to be installed with cable ties etc. I did it like that as it started to rain but it looks gash.

I will drill the grill and install rivnuts and some nice allen screws instead. Noticeably warmer this morning though with it installed. Drove for just 2 miles before i had to stop and open it, normally it takes a good 5 or 6 before its warm. windscreen demisted much quicker than usual and with it rolled up, it still offers a partially blocked rad so it ran much warmer :) mmmm toasty!

Done this a couple of times, you'll find that the slop will probably return pretty quickly. Mine came back within a couple of thousand miles, and is now at the stage where it can't be tightened any more. So I now need a recon steering box.

so long as it gets it through the mot this time ;) i just couldnt face replacing the box on the street with the locals going "oohhh that looks hard" ... i just want to slap them. Spakkers.

Soon as im on the farm I can change things in peace and tranquility and my swearing at rusted fasteners will float across the landscape ;)

Other mod this weekend on the cards is pump tuning (as at present its totally standard) , new antifreeze as previous owner only put water in it and i havent been arsed yet to change it... but thought i should now its getting noticeably colder.

installing a wolf airbox (somehow... not figured out how to mount it yet) , headlight guards from the mrs series 3 (she doesnt know im robbing em), fixing the giant hole in the floor in the back, and mounting the roll hoop & canvas cover.

Just read through this lot...nice one mate you've certainly cracked on and got on with it! Wish I had that determination....oh and wish I had a farm as well (but not in treacle town)

Well I got a few jobs done today on wombie.

New seats ( in the garden!) it was dark when i finished fitting them.

Wow i'm loving your work on this. You're not hanging around! I was just wondering what those seats are from? Are they comfy on long distance? I'm having to do quite a lot of driving in my defender and I'm getting a bit sick of having to stretch my back for 10 minutes every time after i get somewhere with the standard seats :p

Seats are copies of an audi rs6 set. Very comfy... but they have made it a bit of a **** to get in and out of without removing the steering wheel.

Just done the fuel pump mods tonight, well the star and the diaphragm. Holy crap its transformed it! only took 10 minutes to do. I was a bit conservative with the changes as i dont have an egr meter on it so only turned them up 50% of the recommended starting setting.

Struggling to get the smoke screw cap off.. cant seem to get anything in there to prise it off. Any tips?

Farm we are getting is near Tenbury wells, far far away from treacle town ;)
