I was going to just restart this thread once I had the engine running and knew it was ok, but, in all things range rover, I'm coming back because all is not well and it's getting interesting/ REALLY ****ING ANNOYING!
So since the last post, I have replaced the FUBAR'ed HG on the N/S bank. Started it up and moved it out of the garage last night and it wasn't happy.
Now, I am 100% sure that we (a friend of mine, who is a time served mechanic and is happy to look over my shoulder important parts, and I ) Have done both heads the correct way. However last night it was coughing and spluttering a little on the O/S bank, The bank with the head gasket that I did not do wrong.
After a little drive to his today, it wasn't happy, very low on power and spluttering away. Left it parked at his for 10 minutes while we looked at his discovery 2 project. then came back, started it up and there was LOADS of steam.
Interestingly, the HG we removed that I mucked up, even though it had been overtightened, had not stuck properly to the head....
The original head gasket turned up in a Payen style board and packaging, the second set of HG is a genuine Payen with the hologram anorl….
Extremely frustrating!
Still, a trip to the scrapyard gave me an almost brand new auto dimming rear view mirror, new instrument surround cover and fuel flap switch and an ABS ECU for spare.
Since my last post I have also had the dash out and back in and done a load of work under the dash and gave the RR a clean. Cobar blue looks amazing when clean.
