Does the Chevy have the starter dog on the crank I wonder? I was changing the points on my 3.5 Classic many years ago and a plant mechanic walked past and said you'll be lucky to start it with that,dizzy cap back on, ignition on and a quick crank....I said crank and she purred like a good un. The Bosch starter on the diesel is ever so slightly different and might be worth a try. Pretty cheap off the Bay.
