I have an L reg 2.5 diesel, it would not start one day even though the ignition switch was lit up, just would not turn over, mechanic said he would sort it out, went to pick it up starts first time, brill, now the electric windows and central locking dont work, phoned the garage up dont want to know said they never did anything, have checked the fuses and relays still nothing, anyone else come across this problem if so I would be ever so gratefull.
thanks Rob.

Can't help you directly, but have you asked the garage exactly what they did do? Or what the problem actually was? It might help diagnose what they might have cocked up!

Oh, & if you mean "has anyone come across this problem" ie, sending your motor to a garage & it comes back with faults it didn't have when it went in, I'd bet we all have!

Hi Marcus many thanks for coming back to me so soon, I spent all last night on the phone with the garage, they said that a relay was at fault and now they have by-passed the relay.
I then went outside to the vehicle and started removing the pass/side footwell panels only to discover that a relay had been passed they cut two wires and rejoined them direct. However the brown live coming in to that does not show any feed at all???????, Now what this relay has to do with the central locking and the electric windows is beyond me because I have located the relays and fuses for those, unless I am mad and stupid.
Everything else works fine, why o why didnt they replace that relay if that was at fault instead of by-passing it I dont know.
Still back to the drawing board and try again, I might even put another relay in there and reconnect the original wires to see what happens.
I shall keep you posted, once again thanks, Rob

Thought as much!

Without pouring over the wiring diagram for (probably) hours I couldn't help pinpoint the problem any more accurately. If you start bypassing things in looms you can cause all sorts of knock on problems (believe me I've done it often enough - turn on the indicators & the headlamps dim on & off, switch off one thing, another comes on, you know the sort of thing!)

I agree, my favourite would be replace the relay. Bloody cowboys, yeah, I cut corners, but it's my vehicle! The relay was there for a reason, Land rover don't fit things cos' they look nice (well, 'cept to Freelenders....oops!) especially if they cost money.........what'll you get next, your brakes weren't working so we bypassed them?

Best of,
Marcus.

i concurr wit marcus, if you take yer car to professionals you expect a profeesional job, if you go to cowboys you takes yer chances. if you work on yer own car then you can do what you like
