pink or blue?

I too get the blue for free. My understanding was that the red was long life and the blue was not. ie the anti corrosion inhibitors in it don't last as long.

I believe the red can last for around 5 years and the blue a year or two. So if that's the case and I get blue for free ( and I have a leak I'm trying to track down) I'm going to keep putting blue in till I find it and then just change it every year which should be well within the time to keep the anti corrosion stuff alive.

I have a V8 btw. If anybody thinks this is a bad idea please let me know :)

I am going to see if I can get any red for free anyway as if I can it will save the effort of changing it every year.

if your cooling system has been designed to use organic acid tech coolant it will not like ethylene glycol as it may attack some of the seals and hoses and it works the same the other way round, also NEVER mix the two or the whole lot will turn to a brown murky useless slop

there are a few anti-freezes/coolants that will mix with both but they are not cheap (VW made a purple one that could be used in anything)

Just read rave, it states "Use an ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing
no methanol) with non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors
suitable for use in aluminium engines to ensure the
protection of the cooling system against frost and
corrosion in all seasons."
so my free blue stuff should be good

It's not mixed. It was blue when I got it anyway. I think I have found my leak now as well. I can see dried antifreeze residue under the throttle body heater so going to check that out.

That's a common leak spot. Small bore hose and clips that crimp up. Better with small Jubilees. Hose is prone to perishing there too so when you've got it off give it a good bend and twist to look for cracks.

Yes I replaced the return pipe already because that sprung a leak. I used a jubilee clip on that one as it didn't come with a clip.

I'll replace the other pipe anyway I think as if it's nit leaking now it will start soon I guess! Looks tricky to replace though. Do I need to take the air inlet manifold off?

The stuff over here is green:confused:
