Fog on opposite side to the reverse light…
(Think drivers side fog)
It’s working. Couldn’t tell you why but not going to question it 😂 both that and the rear screen illuminate. Door switch fixed - robbed one from the other car.
Only thing I need to do now is drive shaft and member but don’t know what to order as don’t know spline detail without removing. All I know is it’s 1998 non abs. Annoying as she’s good to go bar that. I could drive it a bit but that member is clunking a little

Expensive day….

I stripped the nearside front as play/clink was raised when it was inspected. On removal, swivel was full of oil. Oil full of grease. We already knew that would be the case didn’t we!
Plan was to just replace the cv and drive flange as these were assumed to be at fault. Now diff oil needs doing too obviously. Then i noticed that although functional, the pads and discs looked old and crappy. It doesn’t stop well (although I do forget landies don’t really!). This is how the shopping list escalates!

Swivel ball looks in good Nick as does the seal. Caliper seals and pistons look fresh - may even be stainless. Someone has copper greased them though which would just ruin the rubber - I don’t get it?!

I didn’t want to put it back together half done. I’m pretty sure stub axle had wrong size seal fitted although bearing looked good. I won’t be able to get that out without mullering it. Shopping list continues…

All parts ordered and I can re-assemble without any worries about crap parts or half a job done.

I cleaned up everything and painted on some lanoguard that was in the shed in half an attempt to buy some time/give a bit of protection.

Next up is, clean up the hub and swivel, fit new track rod ends (they died on housing removal), new brake flexi, make two new hard lines, new pads and discs. Seems expensive at time but parts for these are so much cheaper than German/jap that it makes sense doing bits whilst I’m there. Especially when critical. Chance a britpart cv or fit and forget a hardy - not worth the worry in my opinion!!

Got another wheel from @Firebobby1 so thought I’d take a risk with the worn one I’ve got as a lesson prior to restoring one for my main build. It’s not perfect (it almost was 🤦‍♂️) but it won’t disintegrate in my hands like the current nasty one and will go nicely. Just needs some leather balm in a week or so.

I thought my God, what has happened to it, I just checked the photos I sent you.😁
😂. I think I may attempt to re shod the one you sent. Picking it apart obviously gives the pattern pieces. I just need a skiving knife and some more material. I’m happy with the stuff I got for the cubby box lid so I’ll speak to them and try and crack a deal as wouldnt mind doing my door card inserts on the other one too. The other one should end up as an ES plus 😂. I really want some SD NAS stuff but it’s so hard to get hold of. Their door cards are stitched leather

Got a fair way through the offside works. The new cv and driveshaft came fitted together already. There was no spacer on it but it matched the lengths of the old one 🤔

New oil seal on swivel, assembled and fitted new stub and bearing, new timkens (had in stock so thought I may aswell fit). Swivel refitted with new bolts. Swivel main seal looks tidy so didn’t dissssmble swivel!

Been doing little bits here n there as not getting solid time to fettle. Mainly freshening front end up. Really satisfying but annoying stop starting:

New rocker cover gasket
Front bearings
Front stub axle seals and one new stub
New n/s gkn drive shaft and cv
New N/s swivel oil
Front discs
Front pads
New pad retainers
New brake flexis
New brake fluid
New brake lines from flexi to caliper
New steering damper
New track rod and drag link ends

Have started moving over the wheels off the resto onto it as good rubber. Next is diff oil, UJ and prop greasing, new wipers and front lights.

Need a new windscreen too really.

She’s looking quite well. Brakes aren’t great - going to do another bleed.

Fair bit of smoke under load when I took her down the road. Is this fairly normal if it hasn’t been run for a while? I’ve had it idling but not had it under boost for a good month. @Hicap phill?

Not sure what I want to do next - maybe worth cleaning out the IC pipes and intake?

I will need to get the front screen done as has a nice crack along bottom.

I would quite like to replace the rusty exhaust.

I’d like a pop up stereo too so I can listen to my phone via Bluetooth - would mean I can charge and use at same time as I currently plug it into aux.

Future plans -

Rear window seal

I think front main seal is weeping 🤦‍♂️

Transfer box has slight weep.

I’d like a big ammo box or something secured down one side for guns.

I’d like something that holds a 25l Jerry can,

I’d like an little amp off the aux fuse box to run a sub in the standard location - I have a spare speaker box.

I’d like one of those rear door builds with clamps for a shovel, rope etc. wonder if there’s a way I could build a gun holder on the rear door instead?

Give it a good run out. It will have a lot of damp/crap in it. They clear out after a few hot miles when everything is up to temperature

Gun mount behind seat. Safest place as less stuff to damage it. Can be a pain but a lot safer

Well I took her out on a good run down the lanes. Needle didn’t go past 90ish on temp and the engine felt really good and strong!

I have a leak, drips off back of sump. Nothing huge. I can’t tell if it’s coming out bellhousing plug or not so I’ve bought a couple plugs to rule it out.

I didn’t notice smoke in the headlights behind me. 60 quid saw an almost full tank!! Half my current motor. I’m hoping to daily this. I don’t do heavy off road, just farm tracks and fields. Nothing a standard disco on tyres can’t handle.

My only gripe is the steering wanders a tad and just feels a touch uneasy.

Brakes started coming to live the more I bedded them which is good.

The new bulbs I fitted are amazing on full beam

In summary, really happy.
