pressure switch is lower than pumpYou could always remove the oil pressure switch and pump oil in from an oil can and see if it primes the pump.

So what,if you pump oil in it should fill the oil galleries and find it's way to the pump eventually.pressure switch is lower than pump
Am I ever not going to be reminded of this dark moment???We used to fill the pump with oil during rebuilding, @Saint.V8 had an oil pressure problem,I'm sure there's a write up in the Technical archive , turned out to be the O ring on the oil pickup pipe if memory serves me correctly

Yes, the oil pressure problem was solved by using the correct O Ring on the pick up pipe....and it wsa one thing I replaced (but not with an OEM O Ring) so considered that not to be the issue.....low and behold @Grrrrrr and his brother figured that one out once i had decided it had served its purpose to me!
Yep, usual method is to pack the pump with vaseline (or other such petroleum jelly)
That's two of us then Sorry @Saint.V8 ,I only mentioned it and your how to incase it helped @badfluffy .I never said nuffin.
At least you didn't steam clean your #4 injector with all its delicate electrickery ...
All I know is I had way better mileage in my ‘98 Disco 1 Gems (18-21mpg) compared to my now ‘01 Disco 2 Thor (12-14mpg). Ugh .
I'm getting similar, but my journeys are really short. That sounds low, even for a v8. I'd expect 15 - 18 mpg.

On a long run >100M I get 22 MPG.
Don't mix up metric and imperial pads!!almost as good as the brake fittings on the jag imperial on back metric on front
