your giving up early has anything actually bust cant see to welll from the pic
Probably is something knackered, but its the fact that everything is just thrown about would take ages to sort out and put back together , thats if it is fixable. looking inside where the fuel pump goes on it is full of rust.
Im not loosing anything as I got it for nowt. but as I say I have learnt a lot from this.

Agreed, its perfectly fixable. If you want to learn don't stop the lessons too soon. Getting this one to run will teach you a lot.
It Just getting the time , trying to do loads of different jobs at once.
Found a local engine rebuilders and conditioners, might get a price from them, dont think they will take this one though.

If it's fixable they will take it on...wev'e got 2 in at the moment both with disintegrated cooling pipe connections parts unavailable...finished the Renault coupe today by making a soft alloy bushing that fitted cast thermostat housing then pressed a steel pipe cut from another scrap engine in to it...next one a nissan diesel pickup is going to be a bit more difficult as the housing is completly shot and we need to fit 2 pipes to it...everything is fixable at a cost though...

Acquired this today not sure if its 3 bearing or 5 but it turns and has oil in. was last running 5 years ago and has been stored inside since then, so hopefully will be good, gonna pick it up next week .
Not sure what the plan is yet ben in touch with local engine place here Car Engines - Cleasby Engine Services (cleasbys.co.uk) Car Engines -this is what they do

You should be able to ship it to @jamesmartin for about £100.& same back.;)
you just secure them to pallets & say you need tail lift collection(unless you have a forklift)
Get a few quotes and if you don’t want the delivery done fast the price can drop a bit
Dont like to bother people but He did say once that he could do it I'm sure he will be along shortly.:) but depending on shipping might make the job an expensive one.

Well here we go again Round 2.
Picked this up today, lot better then the first one which was seized solid not even any oil in it.
Same engine 2.25 3 bearing. this one actually had oil in and can be turned by grabbing wheel with both hands.
Been informed that it was running well before the previous owner swapped it for 200tdi, I know the bloke so do trust him on that. Probably start and run as it is But it will be 40 or so plus years old so Been thinking and looking at it and I aint even gonna attempt it myself. but found another local rebuilders so going to get a price off them , would rather have it right then take a chance of fitting as is then braking down.

If it were mine I would fit a starter, fix engine on some large blocks or metal frame and turn over. Plugs out check that oil is getting up around the valve gear then do a compression check before going further.

I would just try and get it going, they are pretty robust.
You could do what @tottot suggests, or you can just put it in the vehicle.
Almost all engine work on a Land Rover can be done with the engine in the vehicle.
If you are putting it in a vehicle, one job that is worth doing first is examining the rear core plug on the head, and changing if necessary.
Another thing that is worth doing is giving the engine, and the engine bay, a coat of paint.

To be honest I think it probably will start straight up but I am renewing everything else axles will be fully rebuilt with brand new parts ect ect, chassis eventually galvanised, bulkhead welded up with bits it needs, so dont really want to throw a ancient engine in.
Then again could be lucky and it will go for miles, but not sure weather to take that chance. will see what price the other engine rebuilders charge then decide from there.
Theres a few blokes that could do it near me but none of them have the time, still asking around so might get lucky and someone will take it on.

Be careful.
Engine rebuilders are a broad church. Some are excellent, like Turner.
I have also seen "professionally rebuilt" engines that were worse quality than what I could do myself.
Talk to previous customers before giving your engine to one.
