Id like that engine better if it had manifolds and carb fitted. Has it been stored outside for a while?

Col
Been stored inside garage, we took manifold and carb off to get it out as it was in a tight place.
Be careful.
Engine rebuilders are a broad church. Some are excellent, like Turner.
I have also seen "professionally rebuilt" engines that were worse quality than what I could do myself.
Talk to previous customers before giving your engine to one.
Thats true, some people have put me off the first one I as had some bad reports about them but have been recommended to this other one, gonna ring them today and get a rough price.

I would just try and get it going, they are pretty robust.
You could do what @tottot suggests, or you can just put it in the vehicle.
Almost all engine work on a Land Rover can be done with the engine in the vehicle.
If you are putting it in a vehicle, one job that is worth doing first is examining the rear core plug on the head, and changing if necessary.
Another thing that is worth doing is giving the engine, and the engine bay, a coat of paint.
. Is this the Core Plug ? how do I if it's Ok ?

Signs of leakage or if it is very corroded. Might be worth changing it anyway, they are very cheap.
No leaks and looks very clean. wil change anyway though as they are cheap.
Still waiting to get more info and price from the other engine place. if they are cheap enough will just get it in there and save all the hassle of me bothering yous with asking a thousand questions on here and then still ending up breaking something.
