agree.. clean up, put the pistons back and see how much play they have. if its 'acceptable' ( there should be some), re-hone the bores and put new rings on. re-seat the valves and see how you get on

Few more pics, got 2 pistons out the others wont budge, there is some rough bits on the edges of couple of the cylinders, lots of rust everywhere , not sure if this will come good or not, might be cheaper and easier looking for somthing thats already running. as spend on this and try and fix it.

it will need a rebore and new pistons to start with, worth pricing up ,unfortunately most engines will be worn unless already redone and priced accordingly unless your very lucky

Can the head surface in last pic above be skimmed looks a bit rough for head gasket ?

I fully understand peoples desire for perfection when it comes to stripping, refurbing and rebuilding engines but I wonder how much of the effort and cost is really necessary. Ive taken apart a few engines from cars and motorbikes that look something like the example in this thread. I have only replaced parts that are completely knackered and then Ive used scrapyard parts. lets be honest, you could spend a grand on it and it still wont win any races at Silverstone. Its a landy engine. Id get all the water out, clean off as much rust as possible, lap the valve seats, oil everything, maybe run to a new set of piston rings and a head gasket, bolt it back together and fire it up.

Had another go at getting the other 2 pistons out but they will not budge at all, wouldnt care but they are right at the top, the other 2 were at bottom and they knocked out after a bit of persuasion.

OK that looks like an old engine that's been standing a long time, but its not terminal. Keep soaking the stuck pistons and plan carefully on how to shift them. Looking at the bores it may be better to go up and out. Do not hit the pistons in the middle as you can break the crown. Looking at the 2 you have out they look in good condition so its worth trying to save the whole set. If you get a piston to move at all then keep working it back and forwards in small amounts to work the oil in before you try to shift it out. If you can, get one to go down a little then clean off the cylinder above it and push it out the top.

If you turn the block upside down and put some diesel down the side walls of cylinder that may help , you could also try filling lower side of piston with crushed ice to shrink the piston or better still a plumbers freeze CO2 spray.
At leasdt that would move piston on the stuck rings to let release fluid in.

Well think I've really gone and broke it now, this fu!!!ing thing fell oot whatever it is, pistons still wont move, bits and pieces allover the place I know I should of took my time and labelled everything I took off but to late now, that bloke off the fu!!!ing krypton factor couldn't put this back together :D
Please dont think I have wasted everyone's time who have tried to help me as I have Genuinely learnt a lot from this so Thanks
Anyway think this was Plan B time for Plan C
