Hi all

I have a 2006 rrs 2.7 tdv6 and just replaced the rear discs and pads but not the shoes and now the warning lights are on the dash and parking break isn't working any ideas?

Thanks Stephen

Thank you very much mate I have done this numerous times and it still won't engage the parking break just the flashing red park light on the dash. I have tried the latching/unlatchching with the obd reader and it just clicks think it mite be a problem with the epb module

Anyone any ideas?

You may need to pull the epb module and check it out inside. It may have chewed it's gears or locked and needs reseting 🤔

Also thinking if the shoes were withdrawn using diagnostics before being taken apart

In the past seen the cogs were missing several teeth so then when the epb has been applied it clicks or when the shoes are adjusted to tightly so also when there applied the force sensor sees there’s too much tension on the cables so stops it by not allowing them to be fully applied

Indeed also found the manual very useful and they can sometimes be a hassle setting up

Just wondered what’s happened as I assume the epb was working perfectly before the discs and pads were replaced

I have had them back apart today and the module is making a noise now like it's trying to pull the cables but it isn't so thi k it's the module itself mate as the parking break was working then wasn't then was then wasn't if you know what I mean

Many thks and know it can be frustrating at times

Have u tried loosening the shoes off anymore plse to see if it helps

Just wondered if the force sensor is seeing too much force is being applied to the cables and therefore not allowing the shoes to be applied seeing I assume it worked fine before

Did u happen to disable the epb before working n them plse using diagnostics and then taking the epb disablement back off when u finished plse

Suppose another thing that can happen is if the cables are too tight it can on occasions if there old to strip some of the teeth off the cogs but usually the force sensor should prevent that

Plse try adjusting the shoes off more to see if that helps plse

I have tried that there is movement between the cables and the arm on the primary shoe

Just been through this job recently and I can tell you that it is sometimes possible to get the cables out without a diagnostic. Basically ours won't talk to the handbrake module for whatever reason but it does operate on the switch (it's under investigation) so what we had to do was turn on the ignition, press the brake pedal 3 times fully and hold down on the 3rd time, then press the brake switch down 3 times and hold down on the 3rd. The box then winds the cable out slightly.

Once you've done this, I'm fairly sure the car thinks it's in the shoe mounting position so that's all it will do. If you want more cable, you need to disconnect the battery, what a few minutes, reconnect it and do it again. 6 times seemed to be the magic number for us.

When you fit the new shoes, make sure your parking brake cable hasn't fallen out of the holder on the offside because of the way it sits in the drum or your EPB may wind itself too far in. Ask me how I know! We used a tiny cable tie on the cable holder to keep it in place until there is tension on it.

Just a update i have taken apart again and now only the secondary shoe is moving any ideas ? I have attached a video if it works
