i await the flaming and the stoning brigade....
op2:
I hear that
I posted a question relating to if a bonnet will fit a car then went to bed (i work nights)... Having woke up, i've got 2 pages of replies, with the first 2 replies being don't do it
which kinda sets the pace for the remaining 2 pages i guess
People... I like the look of the L322, but i can not afford one, so i want to modify mine.
It's merely a cosmetic upgrade... wings / lights / bumper and grills / vents.
I'm not asking for anybody's opinion on if i should do it or not, as i've made my mind up that it is going to be done... after that, i will source a new interior, as the seats have seen better times.
With all due respect to my elders / peers on this site, i asked a very specific question, to which i would appreciate a simple yes / no answer... will an L322 bonnet fit straight onto the body of a P38?
Also... kindly stop telling me to save my money for future repairs please, as that indicates or signifies that i own a rubbish money pit that's gunna take everything i've got.
I've dealt with purists before, as i'm a long standing member of the P5 club, but i'm not looking for either a fight or enemies... certain patrons will state original is best, but when they say that, they are merely expressing their own opinions.
This is my car, so the only opinion that matters is mine, and if i'm happy to give my car a facelift, that's my choice and you guys should have the decency to respect that.
I intend to keep my car for many years to come, and this forum was recommended to me by a couple of friends at work who are both fortunate enough to own an L322 each... (Neil and mark !).
Landy was sold to me on the basis of great guys who can answer ANY question you care to throw at them... a community of like minded people... and that's the only reason i come here, to pick the brains of those in the know, and in the event that i actually learn something, maybe one day, i can help someone else in the future.
I happen to think that anyone who trades airbags for coil springs needs their head examined, yet people do it all the time, and i'll respect the choices they make for their car, regardless as to how insane i think it is.
Maybe once the bodywork and seats have been done, i'll look into some lambo door hinges, cos i think that would be cool.
.
UPDATE.....
.
Well, having read the remainder of the 2 pages, i am soooo justified to have written the above !
If i could afford an early L322, i would buy one, but i can't, so i'm doing it bit by bit... I have a garage down the side of my house, which contains tools and a welder.
I drive a bus for a living, and i'm putting my wife through university, cos when or if she ever grows up, she wants to be a solicitor, so doing what i do on the wages i don't actually earn is an achievement in itself, but it enforces the notion that if i try to save up and do the part ex thing for an early L322, i would be kidding myself, as £399.00 a week after tax doesn't allow for that, more so as there's no assistance from the welfare state... my own stupid fault for having a job i guess eh.
I've also got a compressor and spray gun and blast pot that uses soft white baking powder to strip paint off of panels without harming the base metal / glass / plastic... so cutting, welding, spraying etc i can do myself, having had many years of practice rebuilding and restoring 40+ year old rovers... Here's one i made earlier.....
