Hi ,I parked in the pub car park last night and when i went to lock it on the remote, there was no response from it, so locked it with the key.
When i went to leave, the remote still did nothing lock or unlock, opened on the key and the message display said press remote, which nothing happened, I have replaced the batteries a couple of weeks ago in the remote and tried the spare remote and nothing happens with that either.
The red light on both remotes flash when pressed.
I did see that all the suspension leds in the switch are lit up the suspension has been working ok before this non start.

I dont have the code for starting with the key in the door.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi As allready said you will have to go to the dealers with your logbook for the door key code, You may also have a BECM lock out or out of sync, thats when the unit under the drivers seat is not communicating with the immobiliser, Alot of P38's had issues with the remote reciever and if too close to a WIFI hub etc could get blocked, try using the remote in all areas around the car especially the rear but I think you will need the AKA code by now as you have used the key to open the car?

Hi,
I am no expert, but when in your situation I rang Tim Fry, of Tim Fry Landrovers, Cheltenham,- he is a great guy, and he has hepled me loads. I rang up with the same problem and was told by Tim on service to put the key in the lock and turn it to open, hold with button pressed for ten seconds, then back to lock and do same, then the key should re-initiate, and work. I may have got the details slightly wrong, but try that, and if not ring them Monday, and they will tell you how over the phone.

Thanks all, will get the code tomorrow, did try what you said Chris's Dad but didnt work.will try Tim Fry in the morning.
When I get the code and hope it works, does this mean that it will be ok, and the remote should start working or is there more to it. ?

Not too sure if Tim Fry's will be able to give you the AKA code, you may have to go to Stratstone? As fry's are an indepandent dealer, You may be lucky and it all kicks in again, but I would search this thread...P38 Remote Receiver Problems and have a read there too...

Dont forget your logbook for the code as they need proof of ownership and they may charge although they shouldent really? may be worth getting your radio code if you still have the factory radio fitted?

Same happened to mine and we reckon it was a phone mast next to the car, RAC turned up the next morning and it started, asked him what he would have done if it did'nt and he said he would have moved it a hundred yards and try again. Eightinavee had already told me this and the RAC guy said he had done it a few times and was sucsessfull. Try and see if eightinavee is about and he will tell you more.

it is also worth checking the state of your battery and also the fusebox under the bonnet have a look at it and see if there is any evisence of corrosion burning especially around fuse 7 if the fusebox is bolloxed and it is a common problem it sends all sorts of odd messages to the becm same if battery is slightly undercharged and the key fob wont recync in this condition - otherwise as above

I did have the battery going flat problem after a few days soon after I bought it, and disconected the wire to the receiver from the ariel and this sorted the problem, had no problem since, so dont think todays problem is due to Wi Fi interferance.

I have trailered the car home so change of location has mad no differance.

Thanks again to all of you for your sugestions

I have now got the code, as I have been away for a few days, I put the code in tonight, and does not work, when i open the car with the key the flashing light on the dash goes out as if its turned off, but when try to start still says enter code or press remote, any sugestions ?

Hiya, did you do it this way...

Please not that the Range Rover locks work in the opposite direction to every other vehicle.
After 3 failed attempts the system will not let you attempt this procedure again for 30 minutes
  1. Using the ignition key insert it into the drivers door lock.
  2. Turn the key anticlockwise to the locking position and back to the central position 4 times.
  3. The first digit - Turn the key fully, as far as it can go, clockwise to the unlock position (only the drivers door will unlock) then back to the central upright position. This should be done the amount of times as the first digit on your security card.
  4. The second digit - Turn the key fully, as far as it can go, anticlockwise to the lock position then back to the central, upright position. This should be done the amount of times as the second digit on your security card.
  5. The third digit - Turn the key clockwise to the unlock position again, the number of times shown on the security card
  6. The fourth digit - Turn the key anticlockwise to the lock position again, the number of times shown on the security card.
  7. Once this has been completed turn the key to the unlock position once.
If the code has been entered correctly, open the door and the red flashing LED light on the dashboard will stop. You will now be able to start the vehicle.

I usually find the whole turning to lock and pressing the lock button and then unlock and the unlock button works for me.... It does it occasionally, but you gotta persevere.. It sometimes takes me a few tries but in the end, the lights flash and the doors spring open...

maybe worth disconnecting your battery for a while and then try it... at least now you have your EKA code....

I have tried tonight and still no luck, when i put the key in and turn to the left each time the indicators flash, turning to the right they do not flash. could it be the door switch ?
when i turn to the unlock, all the doors open, and the red flashing light on the dash goes out, on the dash when i try to start says press remote, it has not said enter code, nothing happens when i press the remote, when the key is in the ignition the red led in the key is flashing. have the same thing with both remotes.

sounds stupid but mine does the same if i go to a certain shell petrol station i have done it twice when i forgot about doing it the first time!
i got around it by pushing my rangie away from the petrol station not far but enough whilst trying the remote untill it worked!
i do not get this problem anywhere else just this one grey area!

With blue wire off RF unit, it often won't get signal with key in ign. I have same on occasions with mine; when it says press remote, take key out, point over shoulder toward offside rear, then press unlock- works every time on mine......good luck!

yes disconected the blue ariel wire soon after i bought it this stopped the battery going flat due to wi fi , this time the car was at the pub, wouldnt lock when got out, then the problem was when tried to start later, have tried plugging the ariel back in to see if the remote would work then but didnt make a differance

If you turn the ignition on ie all dash lights on but do not try to start, does the "check engine" light in the instrument cluster illuminate?.
If it does not then it is likely the BECM has lost sync with the engine ECU.If so you will need one of the Blackbox resync devices to over come this.

hi, I have just got home and went to check if the engine check light was on and it was when ignition light were on, i then turned the key and it started, its been stood a week and couldnt get it to do any thing, last night tried the code on the lock again and still nothing, then for no reason it started tonight, what do i do next ,????? will it happen again and be stranded some where.

Sorry Gloucester1 my crystal ball is a bit foggy tonight, I should have a good look around the fuse box undre the bonnet tomorrow and just check some general connections etc, did the remote locking work ok today as that may have turned the immobilizor off...?

I would suggest looking for the modified remote reciever....
