P38 Harmon Kardon Speakers

The bass speaker in the drivers door on my 2001 P38 is dead, so I need to replace it, given it will easier and possibly cheaper to get an aftermarket speaker.

Does anyone know the size and also the ratttings of the bass speakers in the Harmon Kardon setup up the P38s?

Hi,

My bass speaker has failed as well in the front door so i've been looking around. The part number is AMR6357 and they are about £40 + VAT from a LR dealer.

Not sure what the specs are if you wanted an aftermarket version. From memory I don't think it says on the speaker, although it is a while since I took mine apart to test it.

If that's the correct price, it's pretty cheap. I doubt that you'll find an aftermarket one much cheaper. As a comparison, I used to have a Volvo C70 convertible. The same speaker went in that in both doors. Volvo wanted over £300 (three hundred pounds) per speaker.

I'll give the local stealer a call in the morning as if it is 40 quid then agreed it is a good price.

I hadn't as yet but that was my next port of call, but thought i'd check the collective knoweledge of LandyZone first.

Indeed but does have the advantage of being open 24x7 where as the local ICE specialist isn't and neither is the local stealers, and not easy to phone them up during the day when your stuck on confrence calls all day

Has anyone had any luck replacing any of the Harmon Kardon speakers with aftermarket ones?

i dont know why anyone would want to. The sound quality in the p38s harmon stereo is good,even compared to newer stereos in newer cars, well thats only my opinion.

The sound quality is good, no complaints there at all...apart from it bein a bit dated and hard work putting a new head unit in.

Main reason I ask is the high frequency speaker in one of the back doors has gone (AMR6359). Seems overly expensive to replace with OEM, and don't really wanna be putting in 2nd hand speakers.

Was wondering if I could replace both high freq speakers in the back with a pair of similar size aftermarket speakers, would be quite a bit cheaper to replace both than to buy an original.

i dont see why you couldnt stick in a new pair, i would go for something with roughly the same rating as the orginal ones.

I've put a new head unit in with USB/SD/BT and it was just plug and play. The only thing I had to modify was the aerial plug.
Subwoofer in the back for some real LOW bass...cracking sound now

Thought there was probs with the HK system and aftermarket headunits due to the amps.

Not sure about the different audio systems, and not tested myself, just read in a few places that you can get sounds probs with aftermarket stereos (hiss, crackle, distortion etc) since the head unit drives the amps seperately?

My original head unit is connected to a seperate loom/plug for the amp. This is not used when fitting an aftermarket unit.

I have perfectly clear sound.

If only it was so simple in mine, from what I can tell the only way to get an aftermarket head unit working properly is to remove the all the amps from the system and fit new crossovers...that's why I've left it alone for now, back to the old days of burning CD's for the changer!

that's not a bad idea at all, if I ever bothered with an ipod!

I had a nice sony head unit in my last car with bluetooth, music streaming from my phone along with handsfree...about the only thing I've missed since getting the P38.
