Hi guys, im new to this forum. im after some help with my p38's. Ive got a 4.0se petrol(gems) and a 2.5dt, i want a diesel to run so i was going to put the m51 into the v8.The dt is to basic and if im honest a bit of a knacker!! ive been quoted £240 to have the petrol becm changed to work with the diesel. My questions are will a syncmate sort the problem of becm/ecu comuniction? is £240 reasonable? i think its strong money. Has anyone done this swap? any pitfalls except becm? thanks for any help. by the way i only want to put the bmw m51 diesel in, dont have the budget for any other swap. cheers.

I'm a little out of my depth here but can you not just swap over the BECM as well then put fuses in for the modules the DT didn't have? Not saying that'll work but seems simpler than rejigging a Petrol BECM?

That was an idea i had but im not too sure my self. I could do with help confirming exactly because its a weekend swap on a daily driver!! both cars are manual if that makes any difference.I just want to keep my climate control and everything!

The DT will most probably have a Lo line BECM and the V8 a Hi line so a swap is not straightforward. Easier to change the settings in the V8 BECM, try contacting Dougdotcom, a syncmate will not do it, a Faultmate will and maybe a Nanocom. Lots of other problems, wiring looms, fuel lines and filters etc to consider.

I can think of a few other things that you would have to swap:

- radiators/gearbox oil cooler/fusebox/engine ECUs/gearbox ECUs/aircon system/exhaust/dash unit.

Forget it.

Thanks for your help. I can manage all the wiring and swapping parts.its just the bloody becm!! How do I tell the difference between hi line and low line becm?? My V8 hasn't got elec seats or front fogs etc. but has climate control and cruise control. Cheers for any more help. How much should I pay to have v8 becm changed??

The BECM should have a label on it. The settings can be changed with Faultmate or possibly Nanocom Evo, there may be someone near you with the kit to do it if you put your rough location on your signature.

Have tried to put location on signature. Don't know if it has worked? I'm in Nottinghamshire. I've thought now maybe fit the HEVAC unit to the diesel? Is this possible if it's a low line becm? Thanks
