An update to this thread:
I decided to get the head gasket replaced; LR wanted £250 for the parts, my local garage who I've used for years wanted £1100 to replace it. Neither included pressure testing skimming which would have been on top of those prices.
I asked around and found a mate of a mate who runs an independant LR garage who could do it for £700 including pressure testing and skimming.
On the pressure test the head showed up as cracked between ports 2 & 3 - £900 or more plus VAT for a new head!!
He has now found me a second hand one for about £400 plus a bit extra for having the second hand one pressure tested.
So I'm in for about £1150 but will hopefully have it all sorted soon.
More news when I get the Disco back.
