Thanks to the OS map of my area I found an ORPA (makred by green dots on an OS Explorer map) which happens to be a UCR (unclassified county road). I checked with Lancs county, but they couldn't for definite tell me it was OK to drive; the lady put a request into the rights of way office to get back to me. Oh well.. I decided to go out to the far end (from where I live) of the road to recce the (classified) road junction and the farm where the road starts to get my bearings for a hopeful trip out. Anyway there was a couple in an L200 pickup in the farmyard about to go out hunting (guy had his shotgun with him). Turns out he used to live at the farm
"Yes the track is a public right of way and you can drive it no problem. Don't fall off the track into any boggy stuff and if there's a problem with the Disco, walk back here to get a tow out... £25
. A Disco will tackle the track easily. Great day for it! Oh, and please don't tell your mates: Once we had a guy drive the track, the next day he was back with 3 others (vehicles I assume). The week after, 10 of the buggers!!"
So, armed with such local knowledge... here we go:
A rocky bit I was a little bit apprehensive of, but the Disco wasn't
photo taken after we'd negotiated it.
Nice view!
A ford as well
Good stuff.
