Sport Oil pump

RRS TDV6 2.7 2007
Driving vehicle, oil light comes on, low gear mode selected message flashes up. Vehicle slows to a stop with transmission fault and engine management light on. Engine will attempt to start but won’t turn over. Car lifted and recovered to garage. Garage says it’s got an internal engine component failure. Most likely oil pump, but will most definitely need a rebuild. Thoughts please

. Owned car from new and always serviced annually.

does the engine attempt to turn over or does the relay click?
first thing to check has the battery failed?
can you turn the engine over manually or has it seized?
has the cam belt tesioner broken off the oil pump housing
these engines are also known for snapping the cranshaft

It does attempt to turnover
Battery is fine, although when trying to turn over it gives the impression that the battery has failed . But the battery is only a year old.
The recovery guy shone his torch down the oil fill and asked me to turn the ignition . He said he could not see any movement of oil

I will ask the other questions to the garage that have currently got the car .

Just because the battery is 1 year old does not mean it is any good.

Radio and lights were still working after and can the battery fail mid drive ?

The alternator can certainly fail mid drive and take the battery down with it. However, if the radio and lights were working there was some life in the battery.

The engine is going to be fubar.
The oil pump casting fails, this then allows the cam belt tensioner to fall off its mount, and then everything inside the engine gets a little bit to close for comfort.
Cost of repair may outweigh the cars value.
