3 years ago i bought my first P38 but had to sell it after 5 months due to moving further away from work and adding 200 miles to my monthly commute, I regretted having to sell it for 2 years.
In April this year i had to scratch that itch so went out and found another P38 and i'm loving the ownership of it.
Now i get back to work after my holiday and find out i'm getting my long overdue salary review, and as part of it i'm getting a company car, I'm gutted. Another P38 owned for less than 6 months as i cannot justify keeping it just for the weekend.
Looks like I'm definitely not destined to enjoy RR ownership

Tell them to keep the car and give you a cash allowance instead (is what I do).

If you are paying out for the P38 even if you weren't going to get the company car....I cannot see the problem with keeping it for weekends and run the 'free' (excluding tax) during the week.

The cost of the company car tax will be less per month than running the Range Rover full time anyway...so do some more maths and see if you can keep it....I did when I got my first company car in 2007, then in 2011 I decided to just take the allowance instead!

I also take the allowance instead of company car. However my employer restricts this option to those above a certain grade, so there are "unfortunates" for whom the car is the only option.

The allowance wins hands-down for those of us that do their own maintenance, but might not be so good for those that need the services of a local stealer.

Thanks for the advice boys, i will look into it.
I'm told that the car plus cash raise will be better for me than just a cash only raise.
Just to keep the RR taxed and insured will cost me £500 a year, plus fuel and maintenance for weekend use, suppose its worth that to have the benefit of a weekend car.

Also think of the kudos you will get from your clients when you turn up in a Range Rover rather than the normal tin box.

Yeah, i had to laugh when i was given my choice of cars and monthly lease allowance then told i couldn't have the C220cdi touring i had picked as the MD only had the E220, and they said the car had to reflect the company image and a skoda octavia and Mondeo was on the list they mentioned, never, ever was that going to happen.

Son in law is on his second octavia company car, got a bit of ribbing with first one but now some of the other lads have gone for them aswell, they now do one with a few extras thrown in just for company car buyers.

What type of company prefers a Skoda/Mondeo over a Merc due to the company image? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking those two, but the comment intrigued me.

Well the company car gets delivered on Monday, went for the Toyota Auris hybrid Sports tourer in the end, will only cost me £52 a month in tax and states 80mpg+, that's my monthly fuel bill slashed.
Decided to keep the RR for at least 3 months then it will still have 6 months MOT to sell it on if that's what i decide to do.

Well took delivery of the Auris Hybrid today and its, well, "nice" but i honestly prefer the comfort of my 18 year old Rangie and i miss the hairs standing up on the back of my neck every time i hear a "Beep"
