before you do anything else to the engine check the condition of the cam belt.... even if it looks good enough to try and start the engine get it changed as soon as youve confirmed its a runner.

second thing is change the oil, crack off the injector pipes fully so no diesel actually gets to the injectors then spin the engine over on the starter to circulate the oil round the bearings before you try to fire it up..

then start to try to start it. if cam belt is good work through the diesel line from the tank checking you get diesel at every stage....dont forget new diesel filter before you start.

I could be completely wrong, and its only the colour that is pointing me in this direction, and the fact it has leather and air-con, but could this be a 50th anniversary limited edition, with the atlantis blue micatalic pearl effect paint????

If it is , it should have boost alloys but theres nothing saying they havent been changed.

And not all the '50th' had the front wing decals.

Well, took long enough, but I FINALLY was able to bring the disco home :)

Cleared out whatever was in its way, brought in another 4x4, pulled it out of the side of the mountain, onto a rescue truck and on its way :p

The drivers window was a bit down, do when i kicked in the air compressor to fill up the tyres, I saw a paniced RAT trying to get out of the car
Then I saw another one :(

Both rear tyres are torn from the rocks and wont inflate, but the engine turns and the underside of the car is totally rust free.

Pictures and more will follow. For now i need to get rid of the ....pets....

Long story....

the important thing is that its home now and I can finally start working on it.

Question guys.

Someone said that i should hear a pump working when i turned the ignition on, coming from the back...

I dont hear anything. Unless it works only for a couple of seconds, not giving me time to turn the ignition and run back to the tank....

How do I check if the lift pump works ? Just remove the exit hose and pump it till i get diesel ? If theres a pump at the back and its siezed or broken, will i still get diesel ? Or is there a valve or something that would block the way ?

There is only one pump on a TD5 and it's in the fuel tank.

If you open the drivers window so you can stand outside and turn the ignition on you should able to hear it run easily - if you can't, there's a problem right there.

The vehicle the op has rescued is a 300Tdi so no intank pump fitted or have I missed summit along the way:confused:

Welcome supercharged16v I am also a recent new owner of a 200tdi and will restore her to her former glory . Looks like a bottomless pit to me!

Thanks :)

I removed the lift pump because it wouldnt stiff up while i was working it .

It had some diesel inside, but not ptessurized...

Working it outside the engine though seems to suck on my finger firmly and squirts whatever diesel there was inside it.

Any thoughts ?

Also put 2 good rear tyres 245/70/16

is the fuel line back to the tank sound,,,, try blowing air down it from the engine end , with the fuel cap off you should be able to hear the air bubbling in the diesel in the tank. the rats may gave chewed through the line. is there a sedimenter between the tank and chassis inside the right rear wheel.... looks like a diesel filter, but is an empty canister, supposed to catch crap from the tank....dont try to undo the plastic drain cos the tend to snap off, just undo the centre bolt clean the crap out and replace.
