I'll check it out for any rust issues and so on... my main consirn first is to see if I can make it start without spending a fortune on it.
 
Been a while, the Disco is still sitting where it was last month, still waiting for this guy to go and pick it up, bring it to my house :(
I really hope this will be over with this week so I can get to work on it.

Been up to the village though today and took a few pictures.
The path way to the car is nearly cleared up. At least the trucks that were in front of it were moved so now I can take it out of there easier than before.

Well it ain't a Disco 2.

It's hard to tell how much rust there is. Check the boot floor and such places. Although with the wheels, tyres, rearranged bodywork and stuff I can't see this being particularly cheap. Is that signs of something homesteading under the bonnet?
 
Well if it isnt a Disco 2 and its not a Disco 1 coz it has different head lights to start with, what is it then ?

The engine turns, but wont fire up. Thats why they left it there to begin with. It wouldnt start up one morning. It died in its sleep ! hahaha :)

Emmm.. no I couldnt...

A decent one over here would go for at least 7 grand.
I'm sure one from UK would be a lot cheaper, but importing to Cyprus alone its going to cost about 800 Euros to come as RoRo and on top of that I would need 2558 Euros for registration of a 2.5Ltr car.

In other words, there's no doubt I'm spending some money on it, but not as much as I would to get a running one. On top of that, its a 7 seater which I need.

So its a 300Tdi then ! Should I be pleased about that ?
I'm hoping that with a little bit of help from you guys, I can get it up and running in no time ;)
A front wing shouldnt be too hard to find. Ebay is stuffed with UK ones with prices from 25 to 45 pounds.
 
Turning but not firing - google for threads on immobiliser 'spider'. Could be that stopping the stop solenoid from opening. Or maybe even the stop solenoid stuck - apply 12 volts to it and see what happens!

Also could be lift pump as suggested, put a clear piece of pipe between lift pump and injector pump to see if fuel is coming through properly

Before any of that, i'd drain the oil and coolant and replace as it all looks like it's been sat a very long time...

So let me get this straight....

There's an electric pump at the back, which I should hear as soon as I turn the ignition on.

Then there is the lift pump, and then the diesel pump with timing on the engine.
Right ?

So if I take out the hose that weeds the lift pump and turn the ignition, I should have diesel running through.
If I put the feeding line of the lift pump on and take off the exit line and do the same, I should get diesel coming through again. Right ?

Which leaves me to the diesel pump itself.

If I undo an injector and crank it over, and I dont get any diesel spraying through, it means that its the diesel pump, Right ?


If the immobilizer doesnt work, it shouldnt start the electric pump thats way at the back, is that correct ?

Trying to get some sequence here to start checking it up
 
Nope, no electric pump...

Tank > Lift pump > Fuel filter > Injector pump > Injectors

Stop solenoid sits inside the injector pump at the back, you should hear it click when you turn ignition off/on

Immobiliser will hold this off if faulty, and that'll stop flow of fuel through injector pump
 
That makes more sense.... someone told me that theres an electric one at the back ! Mind you he might have thought that its a petrol engined one.

If thats the case mate, I can just remove the rubber from the solenoid along with the spring, and have a go. It could also be a stuck solenoid for what its worth.
I can measure the current there when I turn the ignition on. If it gives me 12v, then the immobilizer is working but the solenoid could be stuck

That was me and you said it was a Disco II, which it now turns out it isn't it's a Disco I, TDi 300 auto. If it is 1996 to 1998 then it will have EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) and the immobiliser is in the main ECU.
 
Well, I thought it was a disco 2 because it didnt look like the disco 1 ! lol :)

Bear with me guys :) As I said, I'm new on Land rovers.

Its a 1998 model mate. Is it a common fault ? Immobilizers ?

On Disco I TDi 300 the immobiliser is known to fail and as a result Land Rover produced a special by-pass plug to eliminate the immo. However, this only applies to the manual gearbox versions, the auto-box cars between 1996 and 1998 have their immobilisation function built into the main ECU and shouldn't be a problem.

If it were me, the first thing I would be doing (once I'd got it to a place where I could work on it) is to change the engine oil and oil filter, the air filter and fuel filter - before trying to start the engine.
