Hi is anyone on here doing a night out laneing?
Someone did mention it in a post but never seen anything since.
Just think that it would be fun if we did do a night out on some lanes!
Would need someone to lead as i do not know anything about leading and don't have any maps lol.
Just an idea if someone wants to sort it out.

I'm gonna setup a night trip in a few weeks when I'm back off hols .. probably in the peaks as it's the area I know best .. ;)

This is probably a dumb question, but won't any objectionable locals kick off even more about chugging around at night (quite late in the summer months)? Then again are there any "daytime" restrictions?

Thanks,

Diff.

and?

Sorry, I'm fed up of caring .. we cared so much and did everything asked and yet they still close Roych! Stuff 'em. If I want to drive an open Byway at any time I will. I'll still try not to churn it up, I'll still probably follow treadlightly guidelines, but I'm not going to follow their recommendations, their voluntary one-way systems .. cow-towing to them has got us nowhere so stuff 'em.

Sorry, not aimed at you, it's a good question but this is just a general rant. In normal terms I'd say yes it might upset a few people, but most of the lanes I will be using (I know the route roughly already) are well out of the way.

There might come a time when I do worse, like driving lanes that are TRO'd .. I'm certainly considering it!!

Look at how many Temporary Restriction Orders are actually now Permanent! Mastiles Lane and loads of others in the Dales .. it's getting such that I'm beginning to think screw them all, break the locks and drive them, we won't be any worse thought of, they already think we're scum, I reckon I might start to give 'em something to hang their hats on!

Nothing wrong with doing any night laning, no night time restrictions as they are public rights of way.
I think the only worry might be being chased by a gamekeeper who thinks that you're poachers ;)

To be honest do you think about locals when you drive down a road at night?
So Paul you are going to sort it out when you get back of hols?
Just think that it would be good fun doing it at night.
Look forward to doing something different and to seeing one set up.

Ooh ooh me! Me put me down for this un, missed doin some night lanin a while back as the disco set its self on fire! Well you know how it is!!!!

Good point Paul, im always very courteous when it comes to other users always give them a smile and a thank you and very rarely get on back especialy from the bobbles, I cant see many of them being out at that sorta time anyways, most of em will prob be tucked up with a nice mug of coco and a good book, and like you say bugger em, its just a shame that its spoilt it for future generations that may want to get into laning, as at this rate there wont be any lanes left open! :(

No probs Paul. I know you weren't getting at me
As has been said they are rights of way so drive them anytime. In fact if anyone does get upset then they can be reminded of that fact.

Thanks guys.

There soon won't be if folk advocate driving TRO'd lanes.....

No problem with the rest of Pauls rant though

Not advocating it at all .. just saying I'm considering it, thinking aloud, almost :)

... and besides, what can they do? Double TRO the lane? They're already removing our rights of access, why should we continue cow-towing to them?

I'm actually thinking of it possibly as a well publicised 'action' or protest .. not necessarily via LZ .. to show how few lanes we have and how they're being constantly being taken away. Sort of like the mass trespasses that got the walkers access rights way back when .. Not thought it all through yet and not put any thoughts into real action either .. ;)

Give it time though, I'm off on hols for a couple weeks, then we'll see, though we're away for the next six/seven weekends or more with tents or caravans or just the Landrover .. ;)

Lets face it though, being 'good' has got us precisely nowhere so far, so stuff 'em ... or do you have a better way of stopping the rot??

I agree up to a point, being good has lost us many lanes but often reasons cited are those that haven't been good and ignored TRO and voluntary schemes.

It may be viable as a publicised protest but the lane selection would have to be very carefully done because any damage would be a huge backward step and a massive coup for the antis.

I think numbers showing up in force are good if done right and trips with a positive slant like the chippy run and bouncing bakewell. My worry is if we buy into the 'us and them' mentality we urgently need to remember it's us that are the 'them' as the minority. Every negative aspect of what we do is magnified.....not just by the antis but by ordinary people without much knowledge or experience of the issues.

Welcome to minority politics :(

Oh aye, I wouldn't do it improperly, if I did it. I'd certainly try to run it way tightly and make sure that people were doing it for the right reasons .. while still enjoying it!

I'd probably 'do' Peaks again, 'cos I know them, but I think proper publicity showing it's a protest against lane closures would necessitate properly good behaviour .. from all concerned!

As said, been thinking about it for a while now, but not put flesh on the bones yet .. and I see the 'us and them' as more like 'us against the establishment'. All I'd try to do is come at it from the POV that we only have a few lanes, yet all other forms of segregated right of way have many, many more miles .. why should we have our rights eroded?

It's a very personal thing, I'd do most of it myself and only ask people to 'join up' when I've worked out what I want and how I want to portray it .. ranting isn't the best way to get across that I mean business, and not just a 'knee-jerk' reaction entailing feckwittery .. ;) I believe in action, not just pontificating so this _will_ happen .. at some point! Probably completely differently to how I think right now, though .. ;)

Just remember that there's no I in WE, you'll need a good team to engage a proactive approach to make things happen :)
