Fec, I'll have to look that up.
Now wondering if it isn't what we used to call the "Stroud Road" for some reason and there IS a VERY feckin steep road comes off it, we used to go up it and onto the main road. Was so steep at the top you couldn't pull onto the road without spinning your tyres.
Just looked it up, maybe you mean the one that goes to Bailbrook, or Larkhall. We lived on the London Road near Larkhall. Pulled off near Swainswick?
Have to remember I haven't driven that road since we moved out, so 1973!
Had my first ever car accident on a nasty s bend that no longer exists, on the A46, near there. They straightened the road cos, as the plod who attended said "It's always happening on these bends".
He jest fecked off and didn't look at my licence.
Good thing as it was only a provo and I had pinched my mum's car to go and visit my old school in the middle of the night with a mate.
Hit a brand new tanker being delivered. Did it no harm but the driver had to get a police thing to cover any damage.
Hit his offside wheel with the side of our Morris 1300.:(:(:(
Did quite a bit of damage.:(:(:(
But amazingly the insurance paid out.;):eek::D:D:D
Ma still stung me for the increases in premium over a year or two!
And no, I never drove it again.

At the top of Lansdown Rd is a racecourse, its flat there and then there are Kingswood School playing fields, Walcot Rugby club and other sports places, then it gets steeper and there are Georgian houses along it, You go in between the Royal High School for the daughters of Nobs and Kingswood school, you go past a church (St Stephen's) and then end up in the north of the centre of town, one end of George St, off which runs down Milsom Street.
The only Rec I know of is the Recreation Ground which is smack in the centre of town next to Pultney Bridge and the river, where Bath Rugby Club plays.
But this isn't to say there aren't other smaller recs.
Wondering now if you mean Bathwick hill, with the Uni at the top. That comes out not too far from the Rec, and there is another even steeper which also comes out near there....
AH! Might be Widcombe Hill that comes out near the main rec, and at the top there are the Civil Service playing fields. That's steep and narrow.

The things is, as Bath was built in the centre of an extinct volcano, apart from where the river runs East- West, (Bristol-London) every other direction is running up the sides of the extinct crater so steep as feck!
 
All I can remember was going west off A46 and going through a small village or two then really steep into Bath, the Rugby grounds do appear to be everywhere, I was dropping daughter off somewhere south of town for uni accomodation, it was not far from S&D trackbed

So your dottir went to Bath Uni?
I worked there for a year and a half. !973 to 75, nothing academic. running the "refectory store"!
S & D trackbed, that could have been Midsomer Norton then!
When I worked there the campus was still relatively small, it had only been a Uni for about 10 years.
Nothing like that now, especially now that the Tech has become Bath Spa uni.
tis all a joke really!!
Such a shame as the place was always popular with tourists, now you can barely move for both tourists and students.
would once have loved to move back there, not so sure now. but still some lovely places not far away. Lots of lovely villages!:):):)

IIRC the New (well to me) Sainsburies is on the site of what used to be Bath's Green Park station. So if track bed starts there that would make complete sense. But later than that is the yet again newer Sainsbury to the south of the town, next to St Martin's hospital and on the A367. We go very near there as the park and ride there is most convenient for us.
The Uni to the East is the original first proper Uni. Where I worked.
So Ivo Peters road is just north of the A36 road which is the main Warminster road, which leads to Bournemouth but there are various ways of getting to it via shortcuts, one is the Midford road, the B3110. Which is what we use. It is very steep in places and does have traffic calming going through Midford, under the railway bridge. Another way is climbing up then taking the A3062 North Road which then becomes Claverton Down Rd, which is very near the Uni. then back down again using Brassknocker hill, which comes out on the Warminster road where the Viaduct Hotel USED to be, I have just discovered it no longer is there, obvs near the Dundas viaduct taking the Kennet and Avon over the river.
Brassknocker is famously steep, prolly the steepest hill around there. If you zoom in close enough on Google maps you'll see that the name of it is marked on it. It starts at Claverton Down by the Wessex Water services. Comes out by two sets of lights. Straight on leads to Monkton Combe, right leads to Warminster and eventually Bornemuff!
We use all of these roads regularly cos we go to Bath often for the theatre.

I have been doing this, as prolly have you, since about 1973! I have found that levering is OK but try to do it as straight as poss using old pads etc to minimise angles, cos if they get canted over you have to go backwards, i.e. pump em back out again to get them straight. Using a G clamp or other specialist tool usually works better, sadly!
