Had a fantastic day
Learned about recovery and drove the tipping up lane going up for the first time.
Thanks to everyone, especially Paul and Neil for the training
Star of the day was Diffock66, I had planned for him to detour the hard lanes but he did them all. Silver standard Disco is his, and it him kissing the ground when he survived Belford

aye, theres a nasty rock poking out at the bottom (right hand side as your going up).
inconspicuous thing, but it jumps out and catches the rear quarter panel as your going past. careful negotiation required to avoid damage!
sure there'll be pics later
other than that, really good day, an as sue says definite star of the day must go to difflock!

He tracked down his dads old classic range rover to a family freind that has a 6ltr perkins lump in it.
I did
I know you said its harder, but I actually preferred going that way. Felt like you had more control over speed and stuff, going down its harder.

Well Disco 2s have fancy traction control as standard
D: but yes, she's stock. Despite being about halfway through their legal life, those Toyo tyres seemed to work well I only took a few pics - off to photobucket in a bit..
OK bit of a story to tell, but as a laning noob, I feel the need to write about the adventure!
Yes - I had to kiss the ground down Belford - the adrenaline trip of negotiating the "tippy bit" was better than spending £30 at Alton Towers! It was the first time I'd seen how far a Disco could go over without tipping, so no wonder I was amazed
It was due to a navigational mis-communication between Sue and Neil I believe that I ended up going down Belford anyway :argue: :argue:
The only scratchy bits were the trees (I HATE holly bushes!) - no panel damage done, just a couple of scratches so out with the T-Cut. The only panel damage was incurred going down to the reservoir when I made a bad decision on a line over one of the steps - N/S rear wheel slipped down and BANG...one cockeyed mudflap and a small dent. What I should have done is got Neil to come and spot again...
(Sue - any chance you could PM me the destinations so I can try and find them on the map, already found a couple. Not the actual route as such, but the names of the moor, the reservoir etc.)
SUE! I was right, Lewis (my son for anyone who didn't know) ratted me out to my missus as soon as he got home! The little bugger! :rofl:
Some of the scenery was amazing - I guess that's part of the fun, that and "Bloody Hell! Are we really going up that?!" Yes Sue, I'm mainly referring to Staircase hill....
:scratching_chin:Speaking of standard LRs, it was interesting to note when the traction control was NOT kicking in - just the mere fact of drive available to all the wheels AND not have them spinning goes to show how good 4WD is without any locked diffs. Incidentally, that TC runs on voodoo and witchery... TC light comes on, hold the revs at about 1500 and wait for a second while the LR decides what to do with the brakes...and she lurches forwards! :5breddevil: Granted, she will get stuck, but not on yesterday's terrain!
Lewis loved it, although he got a little fed up when we parked up for lunch and recovery instruction on the moor, so all in all a result!
So... A huge THANK YOU to Sue and to Neil & Paul for spotting, the lesson & advice (glad there was no exam after though!
) and general banter. Thanks also to everyone else on the trip for the camaraderie and the feeling about being in a gang of like-minded people!As long as the bodywork won't get a kicking and I shouldn't damage the mechanical parts and if she's not broken, then I'd certainly be up for more of that! Might have to get a CB now if only to know what you lot were saying about me

LOL, glad you enjoyed it. Wasn't exactly a navigational error on Belford, I thought Neil knew the lane, you were meant to turn right after the fallen tree and walk up to watch the tippy bit. PaulD was then going to come back down and take you back out of the bottom way. Neil didn't know the lane
and ended up taking you too far up to get out easily. I have been told off for that Will send you the full route, just one thing to anyone on the trip. Staircase can only really be done up. The bottom is sometimes blocked by parked cars. If you come down that hill and then cant get out its almost impossible to get back up backwards. If you noticed I drove on ahead to check it was clear before the groups turned onto it, even going up it would be difficult to get a few Landys out if its blocked.

Haven't been in winter yet I'm a newbie remember And I cant imagine doing it in the dark like you lot do either
