Wow, that's so bad! I would be thinking of how to get a permit without affecting car registration but of course that would be illegal... It's your own forced Park And Walk. That ain't right.
Permits are issued for a single registration plate. And there is an enforcer who comes round daily on a moped, with all the details on a tablet linked to council records.
It may not be right, but it is the norm all over London these days.

Awww, you're both just puppies. Sounds idyllic. I don't know what car(s) you own(ed)? I really hope I've bought the right thing. Otherwise it's back to Toyota... nice but dim.

I am not any kind of dog. Contrary to popular belief, I am human! :)

I have owned many, many cars, and landrovers, and tractors, and several boats. Never actually had a Toyota, but I have hired them on occasion. They worked, but so did most of the others.

Super tough on you if you're driving all that way to see your parents...

Yes, I am hoping this Freelander 1 works. I only need it to work for 12 months ot 18 months... but hopefully I won't fall in love with it. (TOO LATE.)

But I am close to the Marylebone Road and that's the A40 straight outta Compton
Nice. So they're on horse back to avoid parking charges now are they.
But a lovely place all the same, Ealing. Green & historic
You're not selling it to me, when I wake up to this

Every morning. :D
Golly! I'd better start making a list... thank you!
I would. I've had my current TD4 for 3 years and the list is still just as long as when I bought it.

My new Freelander 1 now has a name: the "Zoolander" list begins "Do the one wheel up test asap and do it regularly. Make sure newest tyres are on the back ALWAYS. and check the expansion tank for cracking. if it is, then replace it and cap."

I need this car to get to places like what you wake up to every day. So you can see it's incredibly important that I keep these wheels rolling.

The thought of the dreaded HGF is enough to keep me awake at night.

I lived on a Thames Sailing Barge for 3 years so I'm on your side. Thanks for all the advice!

Very nice. I would get one if I could afford it.

I don't really know much about freelanders, just general vehicle knowledge. But Nodge and the other freelie people know them inside out.
Any issues, they will help you sort it.

Thank you. So far, my nerves are dropping to a shrill 7 on the 10 scale...

I wouldn't go as far as moving to Cornwall to get free parking,
I lived in leafy Surrey before moving west. Down here is a marked improvement, but we still have our places to avoid too.
the weather is foul,
Not always. We've just had a lovely summer. :D

the locals will hate you,
Some do, but I'm mostly accepted now. It helps to have a Cornish wire and mother in law.

and there is nothing to do, so @Nodge68 has to spend all his time on LZ! :D
I do loads of stuff. I have a lovely workshop to make stuff in. I can thinker with my 4 cars(all free to park;)).
I can go fishing, beach combing, bike riding, shooting, surf the internet and pretty much anything else I fancy. I don't surf in water as I think it's kinda pointless and as I can't swim, drowning doesn't appeal.
Also, isn't @Nodge68 a fine surfer - I mean, the ocean of course?
Only surfing I do is on the internet, see above.

A Land Rover has character and for some, way of life. A Toyota is just a thing to move you and other things about. ;)

I was only kidding, I had a great 24 years in Cornwall, and I am of Cornish descent.
As it happens, I have also lived in Surrey, I worked on a farm in Egham for several years in the 80s.
But I like being in London too, despite the parking difficulties. I find not having a car is the easiest way. :)

BTW, surfing is not pointless, it is a great sport.

My RAV4 was a good soul. But I have room for a car with character that requires care... glad to hear people like you are there to help people like me. Thank you! About to send off my Toyota's V5. A sad day. Next weekend, the new arrival. "So I have to do the step test, keep the coolant levels up, check the oil all the time, keep the revs low... "

I wouldn't have a car if I didn't need to ride a horse now and again in Hampshire... also, maybe I am tried of life but London looks better after a weekend away.

Freelander's are (sticking my neck out here) very reliable motors. The BIG issue with them is damage to the transmission due to wind up. This is easily mitigated though by checking the VCU every 6 (or 3) months or so and keep an eye on the tyres - a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is a wise investment. With the K Series you have the added risk of head gasket failure - so keep an eye on coolant levels, maybe fit a coolant level sensor if your model doesn't have a warning for it going low - it won't stop HGF, it WILL happen, but hopefully later rather than sooner.
