Got to sort out the booming noise coming from the engine. Urgh its driving me nuts.

it'll take me a while to get a pic, next week sometime.

it's deffo a sals 300tdi with discs though. it worked fine when driving it back, but i haven't checked for play and all that.

kinda hard to show the lightbar working as it messes up my phones camera.

well i spent a good hour in the dark last night sorting out the running on the 200tdi. Got it running much smoother at idle so it doesnt rattle its arse off when your sat at the traffic lights.

Increased the offboost fuelling and its much more pleasant to drive now

Installed some 235 85 16 on boost alloys with 30mm hubcentric spacers yesterday.

Also fitted the front big bore shocks and +2" springs to get rid of the bloody awful spacers that had been fitted instead.

Took ages as corrosion had set in, in some pretty awful places, but its soooooo much better now. Notably more comfy I will also benefit from additional travel which cant be a bad thing, and its actually lowered the front by about 1" which is good as it was a smidge too tall before. This has improved stability and reduced the change in angle on the double cardon prop which seems happier too. Overall a win win!

Found that the P.O had not fitted spring clamps to hold the springs to the axle. Im not a fan of that personally. So sorted that too.

Its good to get jobs done

Still not sorted out the drive flange issues - and now i have wheel spacers I cannot use heavy duty flanges!

However Ive ordered yet another r/h half shaft and new drive member kit.

right busy weekend!

finished off the suspension install, replaced the half shaft and flange and pointed the landy down a hill and brimmed the rear diff with 80/ 90. Fingers crossed this will help with the flippin drive member wear. I lubricated the entire shaft and flange up too and fitted the rubber cap seal things.

moved the light bar switch off my cubby box onto the centre console and hid all the wiring which looks loads better

replaced the bonnet hinge bushes

replaced air and fuel filters and installed an additional pre fuel filter cheapo plastic one to filter out big bits

found out why it was pulling so badly to the right under braking - the l/h front caliper brake pipe had been bent and closed off!!!! I had a slight pull at it to see if it would fix but it snapped instantly so I am glad i found it. Chopped off the offending bit of copper, got out my cheapy £8 brake pipe kit and fixed it mucho betterer!

With the new springs (+2" heavy duty) its now sitting about 1.1/2" lower at the front which has transformed the stability. It doesnt dive into hedges when you take your hands off the wheel now

The wheel spacers have highlighted a minor issue.... all the wheel bearings are loose!!! :screaming_bug_eye_f is how i was driving for the last 20 miles to work this morning after going down a long hill and have all the wheels vibrating their pips off!

will tweak all the bearings tonight

i also removed the old tubular winch bumper and fitted a traditional looking square one which i prefer. Moved the numberplate off the number plate off the roof rack down onto the bumper to improve aerodynamics.....a smidge

List for this week is :-

top up gearbox oil with atf
install my 13000lb winch on the winch bumper with synthetic rope
replace the windscreen wiper park position switch
install led numberplate light (present one doesnt work)
hose up heated fuel filter
install pipework to boost gauge
replace handbrake shoes
install dog guard
install 2000w inverter in cubby box
install wide arch kit
install additional fusebox to run ancilleries
wire up 2 x usb charging points
wire up heated driver and passenger seats


so a fair bit to do this week!

Was reading this with interest as I am about to start rebuilding my 96 110 csw. Could you put a pic up of the 2nd row seats please as it sounds like a good idea. Were these seats hard to fit?
I have ordered a new chassis and new doors for mine to start.
I am looking forwards to getting started but know it will cost a fortune.
Look forwards to seeing more.

i havent got the 2nd row smart seats in yet. doing mods to frames first. I want it to be a purely bolt in jobby with no other mods required.

well im off to london tomorrow to pick up my 2 new roof tents (swweeettt) going to have them mounted sideways so that when open then form a sort of canopy over the side

wont be going in the 110 though until i sort the wheel bearings at the weekend. Scary times at present!

got a spare wheel carrior going on the bonnet with another boost alloy going on that. Should stop it vibrating like a speaker!

literally

im planning on making it comfy enough to sleep over once or twice a week in cumbria every week. Cut down on my travelling - 4 hours a day is starting to hurt.

thats why the breadvan was bought

i used to live in arbroath - with the parents

I used to work in aberdeen

before the mrs moved up here with me i used to drive up from my parents on monday morning early doors - work - then at night - go drive up the hills park up - go ride , come back make tea on the stove and sleep in the van - shower at work.

Saved a FORTUNE over having digs or driving back and forth daily

did help i had a colleague from ireland with a big transit doing the same thing at the same time till his mrs moved over. meant my van was onlyreally a place to crash out.
